August was an exciting start to the year and we are excited to keep the momentum going into September!
Thank you to all the families who came out to our first event of the year. Movie night was full of magic and whimsy as we watched Princess & The Frog, ate pizza, and played outside. Thank you to our PFSP for serving pizza and drinks. With your help, they raised nearly $300!

- Our doors open at 8 AM for breakfast and classes will begin at 8:15.
- Plessy is also happy to be able to offer Before Cafe this year, brought to us by Community Works. Students will engage in games, crafts, and homework help during this time. Before Care runs from 7:00am-8:00am, the cost is $50/month. Click here to enroll in the program.
- Please note that Plessy does not supervise students who are dropped off before 8am who choose not to utilize our Before-Care program. Plessy does not allow students on campus before 8am and does not have any liability for students or injuries that occur before 8am.
- For those students riding the buses, the updated route information is now listed on our website under 'For Families/ Transportation'.
- No bus rider is ever considered tardy due to late arrival and will always be given breakfast.
- Plessy After School Program, in collaboration with Community Works, is excited to announce that our After School Program will be Free of Charge for ALL Families this year! Thank you to Community Works and CCLC for making this possible!
- After School will begin September 9th, After School begins after daytime dismissal and runs until 5:30 daily. This year we have even more class offerings for students to choose from, such as: Visual Arts, Music, Theater/ Improv, Gardening/ Environmental Arts, Strings, Dance, Yoga, Film, and Sewing/Fashion!

- Plessy's PFSP (Plessy Families School Partnership- think PTO) elections will be held on the first meeting on Sept. 10, at 5:45 PM in the Cafetorium.
- Submit nominations/self nominations for: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Board Liaison, Treasurer, Volunteer Coordinator. Please consider being part of the team! We are a community school, and making our children's school experience rewarding and joyful is a community effort.

- Plessy's First Morning Meeting will be Wednesday, September 11th starting at 8:15am in the Cafetorium! - Theater, Dance, & Upper Strings will be preforming.
- On October 5th, from 11:00-4:00, Homer Plessy will host its third annual Plessy Fest! This fun event is open to the public and free to all. Our musical guests will be Plessy dad: Alex McMurray, Plessy husband: Michael Watson's band, and Plessy favorites: The Big Easy Brawlers. We will have games, activities, food trucks, and our very special Plessy Person of the Year will be honored. Who is it this year? Here is your hint: he went to school in our building when he was just a little shorty!

Arts Integration & Project Based Learning Spotlight!
Ms. Watson's fifth grade class launched the school year with identity reflections, watercolor paintings and inspiration narratives. Students brainstormed personal character traits, likes, dislikes and values that reflected their individuality. Watercolor paintings were sketched with pencil, painted with watercolor and outlined with black sharpies for one-of-a-kind artwork. Studying plot structure in ELA, students followed up with inspirational narrative writing pieces using the writer's workshop model.
