A chapter President is responsible for running the chapter. The preside of chapter meetings and events, and represent the chapter at public functions. They will work closely alongside the Advisors to make decisions and schedules, and have the ability to effectively lead the rest of the Officer team.A SkillsUSA chapter President should have strong communication and delegation skills.
The Vice President is the President's right hand. They are responsible for assisting the president in any SkillsUSA business, and presiding over events that the President cannot attend. The VP will play large part in activity planning, as well as helping to oversee the chapter Program of Work.
The Secretary is responsible for maintaining chapter records and overall keeping the club organized. The secretary will work with the officer team and the advisors to build the yearly club schedule, as well as keeping track of attendance for meetings and events.
The Treasurer is responsible for managing chapter funds and keeping financial records. The Secretary will work with the officer team and advisors to build a chapter budget, and plan fundraising activities. In addition the secretary keeps track of chapter income from donations/fundraisers, and expenses from activities/conferences.
The Reporter is responsible for recording and taking pictures of events happening within SkillsUSA. The Reporter is also responsible for writing about the events that happend at the SkillsUSA State Conference in April.
The Parliamentarian's role is to help the officer team when needed. The Parliamentarian is the jack of all trades for the officer team.
SkillsUSA is a student driven club, and the officer team is the tip of the spear. Members of the officer team are expected to be some of the most active members as well as meeting high standards of leadership.
Officers must attend 80% of meetings, or communicate with an advisor on upcoming absences.
Officers must communicate effectively with each other. You are all the engine that drives the chapter. Communicating with each other is essential.
Officers will work with chapter advisors to plan & coordinate regular activities throughout the SkillsUSA year.
Each SkillsUSA officer is a Leader and represents Papillion LaVista High School, our SkillsUSA chapter, and themselves in a positive and professional manner.
If you were active in the club throughout the school year, all you have to do is let one of your Advisors know that you are interested in being an Officer. It doesn't matter if it was your first year in SkillsUSA or your third, anyone who was a member of the club can put their name in the hat!
Elections are held every April, after the annual NLSC Conference in Grand Island. Terms will last from April of the year elected, to April of the following school year. There are no term limits, you can run as many consecutive years as you want!
If you have a desire to serve in a particular Officer role, make that known to your Advisors. Ultimately, each Officer role is decided by the Advisor team, and they will take your input into account when making their decision.
