Mrs. Knight - Language Arts 2 Advanced

We’ll continue our study of “Rikki-tikki-tavi” as students move from reading comprehension into deeper analysis of the story. Students will:

📝 Testing Reminder: Students will take the FAST PM1 Math assessment on Tuesday and FAST PM1 Reading assessment on Wednesday.

📌 Homework: IXL G.2 — Draw inferences from literary texts will be assigned Monday and is due Friday. Students should work toward a SmartScore of 80.

Objective/Standards This Week:

Students will define citizenship as stated in the 14th Amendment.
Students will explain the process of becoming a naturalized citizen.
Students will define permanent residency and explain its role in obtaining citizenship.
Students will examine the impact of the naturalization process on society, government and the political process.
Students will distinguish between an obligation or duty and a responsibility as it relates to citizenship. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, voting, attending civic meetings, petitioning government and running for office.
Students will recognize the concept of the common good as a reason for fulfilling the obligations and responsibilities of citizenship.
Students will evaluate the obligations and responsibilities of citizens as they relate to active participation in society and government.
Students will identify the consequences or predict the outcome on society if citizens do not fulfill their obligations and responsibilities.

Objective/ Standards Next Week:

Students will explain the influence of ancient Greece on America’s constitutional republic (e.g., civic participation, legislative bodies, polis, voting rights, written constitution).
Students will explain the influence of ancient Rome on America’s constitutional republic (e.g., civic participation, republicanism, representative government, rule of law, separation of powers).
Students will compare and contrast the democratic principles of ancient Greece and ancient Rome with those of the United States.
Students will explain how the Judeo-Christian ethical ideas of justice, individual worth, personal responsibility and the rule of law influenced America’s constitutional republic.

Happy Monday! Here is what we have lined up for this week:

Lesson 2 — Explore Translations: We will investigate how to slide figures across the coordinate plane and practice describing these movements. (Homework will be assigned).
Lesson 3 — Explore Reflections: We’ll practice flipping figures across lines of reflection and analyzing how their coordinates change. (Homework will be assigned).
Friday Quiz (Lessons 1–3): We will end the week with a short quiz covering Lessons 1 through 3.

Reminder: Please ensure all homework assigned earlier in the week is completed so you are fully prepped for Friday’s quiz.

Curriculum: Students in Greek 1 are working with the Γεια Χαρά! (Geia Hara) Level 2 curriculum, continuing to develop their Greek reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Lesson 11 – Daily Life: After our verb review, we will review Lesson 11, which focuses on daily life and daily routines. Students will practice vocabulary and expressions used to describe what they do throughout the day.
Grammar & Language Skills: Students will continue working on verbs, nouns, articles, adjectives, adverbs, question words, sentence structure, and building complete sentences in Greek.
Communication: Students will practice Greek through conversations, reading activities, listening exercises, questions and answers, and short writing assignments.
Vocabulary: New vocabulary will be introduced and reinforced through classroom activities, speaking practice, games, and written exercises.
Assessments: Students will have a test approximately every other week covering the vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and language skills we have practiced.
Florida World Language Standards: Our instruction focuses on Interpretive Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Presentational Communication, Culture, and Connections.
Our Goal: Our goal is for students to become more confident and independent in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding Greek and to use Greek in meaningful, everyday situations.
