FAST Testing & Wrapping Up Module 1

Dear Families,

Week 3 flew by! This past week, our 6th graders worked hard learning and practicing all about Rational Numbers. I want to give a huge shoutout to all of my students for their hard work, and to you for supporting them with their assignments at home!

Looking Ahead to Next Week:

• Module 1 Wrap-Up: We will complete the last two lessons of Module 1 and complete our Module Review to prepare for our End-of-Module Test.

• Weekly Assignments: To give students flexibility during a busy testing week, there will be two assignments posted on Google Classroom for students to complete throughout the week in place of homework.

• Tuesday: FAST Math Testing

• Wednesday: FAST Reading Testing

Please make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and has a good breakfast on testing days!

6th Grade Math 📊 WEEK 3 UPDATE

Dear Families,

Week 2 has flown by in a blur of setting up math journals, organizing books, and working through our IXL Diagnostic! I truly appreciate your students' hard work and thank you for your ongoing support from home.

Here are a few key updates for our class:

IXL Diagnostic & Module 1 Completing the IXL Diagnostic took a little longer than the 2–3 days I originally anticipated, but taking this extra time ensures we have accurate data to support every learner. Because of this, our start on Module 1 was slightly delayed. We will officially jump into Module 1 this coming Monday!

Homework Expectations Please expect your student to start having regular math homework beginning next Monday.

Dear Families,

I am so thankful for the wonderful students in our class! This past week has been an absolute joy as everyone participated in team-building activities and helped establish our classroom rules and expectations.

Here is a look at what we’ll be focusing on next week and what your student will need:

🗓️ What We’re Working On Next Week

• IXL LevelUp™ Diagnostic (Real-Time Mode): Students will complete this adaptive diagnostic in class. It helps us pinpoint their grade-level proficiency across key math concepts so I can tailor daily instruction to their specific needs.

• Module 1: Rational Numbers: We are officially diving into our first unit! Students will practice taking Cornell Notes during class and applying their understanding through in-class practice and homework.

💻 Homework & Tech

• Google Classroom: All homework assignments will be posted and turned in via Google Classroom. Please encourage your student to check their dashboard daily.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy Friday! Here is a look at what we will be learning in 6th Grade Science and U.S. History this upcoming week.

🔬 6th Grade Science – Earth’s Systems and Interactions

This week, we will begin Chapter 1: Earth’s Systems and Interactions. Students will explore the different parts of Earth and learn how Earth’s spheres interact with one another.

Our focus will include:

• The geosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere

• Comparing the different spheres of Earth

• Understanding how the spheres interact with one another

• Learning about Earth’s mechanical and compositional layers

Students will complete a reading and activity on the Four Spheres, create a Four Spheres Flip Book, complete an interactive notebook activity, and work through Workbook Pages 5–15.

Essential Question: How can we compare Earth’s spheres?

🇺🇸 6th Grade U.S. History – Our Colonial Heritage

This week, we will begin Unit 1: Our Colonial Heritage. Students will explore why European nations competed to establish colonies in North America and begin examining colonization from multiple perspectives.

Students will:

• Watch our TCI Unit Introduction video

• Complete a KWL chart to activate prior knowledge and track new learning

• Complete a Geography Challenge and map activity

• Begin exploring the relationships between European nations, colonists, and Native American populations

• Consider both the benefits and consequences of European colonization

Essential Question: Did the benefits of European colonization outweigh the costs?

Please encourage your student to stay organized, participate in class, and complete any unfinished classwork. I am looking forward to another great week of learning!
