About QTN

Our Story

—————

The Queen's TV Network, a name coined by the initial set of students who signed up to participate during the 2020-2021 school year, is a livestream broadcast initiative. The student participants chose to brand Queen's TV Network as QTN. Bringing QTN to the Plainfield Public School District (PPSD) was the idea of the 21st CCLC Project Director, Zelda Spence. She was eager to replicate the project that inspired her from the Montgomery Township School District (MTSD) called the MIRE (Montgomery Internet Radio Experience), founded by Keith Glock, a MTSD HS guidance counselor.

The 21st CCLC grant fully funds the livestream broadcast program. The students will continually participate in journalism and communications workshops in preparation to deliver a quality livestream broadcast. The workshops' curriculum models that affiliated with the Syracuse University Broadcast Digital Journalism (BDJ) program at the Newhouse School of Communications, a top journalism school in the nation, facilitated by graduate student, Darron J. Wallace. The students will fulfill roles similar to any television network such as producer, sideline reporter, lead video/camera person, color commentary, and the play-by-play analyst. The inter-disciplinary initiative taps into and further develops our PPSD students' talent in STEM, English, and builds their capacity to become well-rounded individuals.

QTN is an opportunity for HS aged students to be exposed to a career in journalism and/or communications, build upon their literacy skills in the areas of writing, speaking, reading, and listening, showcases students' engineering and technological abilities, and provide a fun platform to connect the district to the local and broader communities. Any individual may access a live or archived athletics broadcast. Eventually, QTN will grow to execute other activities including but not limited to a weekly student driven podcast, provide livestream broadcasts for a variety of school/district sponsored events, and we're also looking into covering local and district newsworthy activities. Tune into QTN!!
