Description
We are going to be designing and creating a pair of animal figurines utilizing recycled bottle corks as our main supply. I will be designing my project on TinkerCAD and prototyping using the 3D Printers. The design process consists of brainstorming, researching, CADing, 3D printing, and repeating until I am satisfied with my final product.
Brainstorm
After numerous testing sessions, I finally started brainstorming. Here are a list of a few brainstorm CorkPals I pondered as I finished up the testing procedure:
Snake
Tortoise
Bat
Dragon
Chicken
Pig
The Brainstorming Story: Once upon a time, on the calm and soothing crystal beaches of the Island of Kauai, there was a group of tortoise eggs clustered under the warm sands of Poipu beach. Untouched, until they started to hatch above the sand on a cloudy and humid afternoon, roosters started to chase after the hatchlings with one evil intention in mind. PREY. However, one rooster differed. Instead of chasing and trying to eat the baby tortoise, he carefully and meticulousy helped it to where the sand meets the grass. The tortoise and the rooster immeadiately formed a protective friendship for each other. They would constantly play together and defied all boundaries between tortoise and rooster. Unfortunately, when the rosster sadly passed away, the tortoise lay in grief alongside his bestfriend. When the tortoise passed away of grief for its loved one, a miracle occured. It was almost as if the sourrounding family members of both sides of the couple magically started to bond together. And until this day, on the magical shores of the garden island, tortoise and rooster live in harmony just as the lovely couple once did. Forever will the couples hearts be bonded together as one and as an excellent leader for generations to come.
Procedure
Pick out the corks and measure their diameters.
CAD the enclosed rings and test print them to see if the rings fit the corks.
Finish and Finalize the project by Cadding a set of two animal CorkPals and 3D printing the models. Once done printing, attach the CorkPal endings to the cork and document the completion of the project on your ePortfolio.
Reflections & Completion
-Strength-
The strength of my work for this project was, in my opinion, optimal since I put in a decent amount of effort into my cadding and my final versions of my 3D CorkPals turned out to be an unexpected sucess.
-Opportunities to improve your project-
I think some opportunities to improve my work would probably constitute some extra print-time sessions and extra time in order to complete my testing rings therefore making it easier to complete my project in a neat and orderly fashion.
-Understanding-What you learned through this project-
I learned through this project that even though time may seem like an expanse at the beggining of every project, you should never take it for granted.
-Limitations you encountered in this project-
I encountered many limitations (mostly my own fault) on this project including limited amount of time for cadding, not enough printers available for my print-jobs, and many issues associated with corrupt files while printing.
-Clear Communicators-
I was able to clearly state what goals I needed to accomplish in each class period as well as clearly converse and collaborate with my tablemates.
-Insightful -and- Critical Thinking-
I used lots of critical thinking power for this project especially when deciding whether to use the specific concept of the rooster and tortoise to tie into an interesting story as well as using insightful thinking to determine the specific details and supports for my project.
