Description: For one of the Design and Engineering Projects, we decided to do the Mooncake Madarin 5 Project for Michael. Me and Rebecca made a 3D mooncake printing mold for the Autumn Festival using the design Michael wanted using Fusion 360 and their tools.
Brainstorm: At the beginning we were taught by Ms. Tran on basic steps in order to create a nametag, and different tools we could use to make one. From there, me and Rebecca learned more about tools in Fusion 360, and specifically how to use the tools to trace the characters for the mandarin project. Me and Rebecca planned to sketch out the 4 characters individually, then create the base with overlapping lines, and finally combine and upload the sketches onto the base in order to extrude.
Procedure: At first we were given a tutorial by Ms. Tran on all the tools to use to create the prototype. Then, we were assigned our groups. I got paired with Rebecca. We were both assigned to work on Michael's project which had 4 Chinese characters assigned to each corner. Me and Rebecca decided to sketch out the 4 characters on the mooncake design in individual sketches. Me and Rebecca each sketched 2 characters and combined them. We used the fit point spline to trace each letter. From there Micheals design required overlapping lines separating each word, so from there we created the base with the overlapping lines and uploaded each individual character's sketch onto the base. It took a while to learn how to upload, and which Ms. Trans help we learned how to do it. From there we learned we had a deadline and had to hurry up to finish the product, we quickly attempted to create hooks to the base in order for the base to be connected to the mooncake press, but our measurements weren't always accurate, and we had to try over multiple times to get the correct hook size. From there, we extruded, combined the hooks and the base to print and get the final product.
Here are some photos of our prototypes and designs:
This was our final design for the base of our mooncake mold all sketched and extruded
This was the original design printed out. It worked with the PlayDoh that we tested it with. However, we needed to add extra supports (hooks) to attach it onto the actual mooncake press contraption.
These were our sketch/prototype for our hooks:
This was the design for the circle attachment as well as the hooks we had to attach to the mooncake base sketch we already created. These were some prototypes from when we printed them and the length of the hooks didn't work.
This is out last and final model! This model included the mooncaked base with the hooks. We turned this one in to Ms Tran.
Reflection - SOUL:
S (Strength of your Work) - I would say our biggest strength was our design as it was very organized and clean.
O (Opportunities to improve your project) - Rebecca and I could've been more presise with the hook attachments and could've done a better job with the measuring.
U (Understanding) - I have learned that it takes a lot of work to create such a small mold! The designs each take a lot of precision and there were a lot of steps taken to create this.
L (Limitations you encountered in this project) - I feel that if we had more time we could've done a better overall job. However we made do of what time we had.
WISCR:
Self-motivated individuals - We spent a lot of effort and time on this project. We did not have much time to complete this but we were able to achieve the design requested. We tried to make this project the best we could, and we were motivated to finish.
Clear communicators - During this project, we displayed Clear Communication and were clear communicators with each other. We designated roles to ourselves so that we could finish this project as soon as possible, and keep both of us productive throughout the project. We tried to contribute as much as each person could.
At the end we even got the make a mooncake with the mold we created and it tasted yummy!
