Description:
Our group was trying to build the tallest building out of straws and 2 feet of masking tape that has to stay up for at least 1 minute, and the only thing it can touch was the floor.
Brainstorm:
We originally wanted to do a rectangle/square base and build up, but a taller triangle base would take less material and make it taller (aka its nickname was daddy long legs), so we used it, to build up and support it with tiny squares.
Procedure:
We started by making squares, but then we thought it would take too much time, do we combined them into 4 long straws with two small ones together, and a square to make it stable. (AKA a jellfish structure) Then we did that but upside down. Then we taped the four straws together and added another square to stablize it. We continued to build off the four straws adding one straw on top of another.
Reflection:
So at the beginning , we where the tallest structure, but our straws weren't very stable, so I think if we made a stronger base it would've helped. And after we made our structure, then someone threw a straw at our tower and it fell down, so I wish that wee added a lot of straws in the first straw that we started building off the four straw base with, and slowly putting less straws inside so that we could make it lighter and it would stand.
SOUL Reflections:
S- what worked? : Our double jellyfish structure didn't collapse and only the single straw tower on top did, and our brainstorming was very innovative
O- What didn't work? Our team members weren't the greatest a cooperating, and our personalities clashed, and we where anxious to get our tower to be the tallest again, but our ideas weren't flowing, so we just started building up.
U- What did you learn? I learned that teamwork is important to a successful project
L- What prevented you from having a successful project? If we where more positive and tryed to support the structure instead of destroy it, it might've worked.
WISCR grade: I would say that we where being insightful and critical thinkers in making our brainstorm, because it was innovative and creative, but if all team members helped to make the idea a better chance of winning I think it would have had great potential 😁👍
