In this project groups of 4-5 were created and we all came together to build the tallest structure possible out of straws and only 2 feet of tape. The requirements was that the structure was unable to touch anything but the floor. It would have to be able to free stand without any support from the group for 1 whole minute.
Our idea was to tape the structure to the ground in a four legged manner so it would be able to free stand without any support. Since we already sacrificed majority of our tape for the base, we had to figure out how to attach the straws together. Our designed conveyed a carefully thought of plan for a stable tower being almost 6 foot tall!
Our first step in building the tallest structure was the make the base. We did that by putting four straws down so it can be as sturdy as possible. Then we attached each individual straw together by placing one inside the other. Some parts of our structure wasn't as sturdy so we used the remaining tape to fix it.
Strength : working together and listening to each others ideas - Our team made sure that everyone had a say in what the plan was going to be
opportunities : If I were able to change something I would try to add or preserve more tape in our project. The main reason why our tower wasn't as sturdy as we hoped it would be is because of the lack of tape. Therefor if we had an opportunity to have more tape incorporated then we would been able to add more and more straws.
Understanding : I felt like our whole group was able to know what the task was and how to complete it. No one was confused or oblivious to the assignment and we were able to overcome the challenge together.
Limited : Another thing that was quite limited in this project is time. We didn't have a whole chunk of time to think carefully about what we had to do. We were only given 25 minutes to think, do, test and present. If we had more time I would’ve thought more carefully about the plan and how to execute it.
WISCR: A learning skill I applied to this project is team work. This is because there was no room for individualism in this project since it was "group work" therefor whether we liked it or not we had to cooperate with our own team mates by not arguing, listening to each others thoughts and contributing to the project.
