Description: In this project, we created a custom design we would later turn into soap. This was a gift for Valentines day. For this project, we used Fusion 360 to create our design and Bambu Studios to 3D print.
Step One: The first step was to brainstorm. I decided to make a soap for my sisters. Because they play soccer, I decided on a trophy. I drew my design on Procreate. This took me a while because I wanted to add a detail, but I didn't know what. After I decided on the "#1", I then sent a copy of this to my computer and later forwarded it to Fusion 360.
Step Two: The second step was to recreate the design in Fusion 360. For this, we used the sketch and extrude tools. I was intructed to add more customizations, so I added more text. I chose the catchphrases, "You're a #1 Sister" and "Love, Alex" for personalization. After I was done, I printed my final draft using Bambu Studios.
Step Three: The third step was to print my prototypes using Bambu Studios. I asked Mrs. Tran if she had any recommendations. She advised to make the platform thicker. I did, however, the print was still too thin.
Step Four: The fourth step was to create the mold for my soap. To do this, I combined white and blue silicone. I molded the mixture over my plastic design and waited for it to dry. After the break, I pulled the mold off and realized it had some holes. So, I mixed gray and yellow silicone to cover the holes.
Step Five: The fifth step was to fill my mold with the liquid soap. For my scent, I chose vanilla and for my color, I chose pink. However, instead of mixing the pink into my soap fully, I created a marble pattern with the color.
Step Six: The sixth and last step of the project was to take the soap out of the mold. While taking it out, my soap fell on the floor. Unfortunetley, this caused a dent to form. Despite this setback, I still participated in the class gallery walk. Something I would do next time is extrude the words more so they would be more visable. However, I am very proud of my work on this project. The whole process was so fun and I'm excited to present this to my sisters.
Soul Reflections:
S - Strength - One of my strengths was that I was able to create my design on Fusion 360 easily. I am proud of myself for this because I struggled with Fusion 360 in the past. However, I was able to complete the design in 20 minutes.
O - Opportunity - If I had to do this again, I would make sure to get my measurements correctly. I had to redo my design a couple times because my design was too short.
U - Understand - From this assignment, I learned how to use applications such as Fusion 360 and Bambu Studios, which were new to me prior to the project. I also experienced new things such as creating molds and working with soap.
L - Limitation - I don't think I had any limitations on this project. However, next time, I would extrude the letters more in order for them to show up more clearly.
WISCR Reflections:
The two WISCR letters I think I embodied the most during this project is the "S" and the "I". The "S" stands for self motivated. During this project, I got frusturated many times, but in order to finish, I had to keep myself motivated. The "I" stands for insightful and critical thinkers. I chose this because I did a lot of thinking during this project. I also had to think critically in order to make my project the best it could be.
