Dear delegates, advisors, and parents
It is with great honor I welcome you to SOFLOMUN, one of the first affordable and accessible in-person Model United Nations conference for students in Broward County, Miami-Dade, and surrounding areas. The idea of creating such a conference came to my mind when I'd ask close friends if they were interested in going to a ModelUN conference with me, and usually the answer was unfortunately no. However, it wasn't due to disinterest. Most of the time, my friends would respond with "it's too much money" or "that conference is way too far." I understand how privileged I am to have gotten to attend as many conferences as I have, because there are students out there being stopped by financial or locational restraints. The right to speak with passion about your ideas shouldn't be a privilege in 2026, but a right. This is why I created SOFLOMUN, so students interested in Model UN who are burdened with restraints out of their own control can have the access to a conference free of cost to them.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what ideas delegates bring to the floor, and what speeches are made through the situations created by our directors. The staff chosen for this conference were chosen with great consideration, being picked for their dedication and passion for Model UN. Personally, I have been doing ModelUN for almost three years, with my first conference being GATORMUN at the University of Florida (GO GATORS). While my first conference can be summarized with cluelessness and a version of myself afraid of the next speech I would make, I believe since then I have changed. Now, I see my speeches as a challenge, my chance to persuade the audience into working with me on whatever crazy idea I have next. While I may not be the best at ModelUN, I continuously look forward to the progress I make after each conference. I hope SOFLOMUN brings the same sentiment to delegates that ModelUN has brought to me, and that after every speech you feel a little more confident and that your hands feel a little less sweaty. I ask you to view your first speech at SOFLOMUN as a challenge, instead of letting your hands shake, let the room shake with the shock of your ideas and the strength of your diction.
On that note, I hope you embrace your time at this conference. Let SOFLOMUN be your chance to shine, and hopefully this won't be your last MUN conference.

SOFLOMUN aims to offer a unique experience to each and every delegate. Our conference is not like any other in the South Florida circuit! This conference ties into South Florida's diverse origins, using deeply rooted history as a platform to create connections.

ENGAGING COMMITTEES
SOFLOMUN is offering four committees to allow delegates to dabble their toes in the same environment change makers are in today. We offer one General Assembly committee, which will allow delegates to engage in the very same spots that majority of United Nations representatives do today. There is also a Crisis committee for delegates interested in a fast-pace environment, but still being catered to beginners. There is also our Specialized committee, which is a combination of elements from both Crisis and GA committees, mostly aimed towards more seasoned delegates. Of course, we cannot forget our Spanish Bilingual committee, aimed to allow delegates to debate topics in Spanish. Finally, we have our ADHOC committee, which is most difficult as delegates will only find out the topic right before committee.

This year, SOFLOMUN's main goal is to provide every single student in South Florida the opportunity to hone their skills in public speaking and policy making. Not only is our conference afforable, with delegate fees being $25 per delegate and $30 per delegation, but our conference is also avaliable to any delegation interested in attending. We have an estimated 80 delegates coming, and with this being one of the most advanced conferences in South Florida, you'll want to be there!

RECOGNITION OF PERFORMANCE
Our conference prides itself in recognizing delegates who demonstrate hard work, successful communication, and diplomacy. We offer awards in every committee, as well as delegation awards. Delegation awards will be based on a school's total awards, based on a point system calculated by us.
Every committee offers a Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, Honorable Delegate, and Verbal Commendation awards. The only exception is our advanced ADHOC committee, which actually offers three Best Delegate awards, and two Verbal Commendations. These awards are largely determined by in committee performance by our wonderful staff. SOFLOMUN also has the power to take away any awards or prevent a delegate from receiving one if they are found to have unacceptable behavior that goes against our Code of Conduct.
Exclusive to our conference is our Bilingual Excellence award. This award, within our Bilingual-Spanish committee, is meant to recognize a delegate that most successfully navigates eloquent debate in two different languages. SOFLOMUN recognizes the difficulty in exploring the richness of culture and diversity in ModelUN, and would like to use this award as an opportunity to commend a delegate who is able to explore two entirely different linguistic worlds.

Every single person on either our Head Staff or Committee Staff has extensive experience in Model United Nations. Certain people are presidents, vice presidents, or have an advanced board position on their school's MUN teams. Others are part of the All American Varsity Travel Team, one of the best delegations in the United States. Overall, we aim to have some of the best staff that could be found in South Florida, with all of our staff not only attending numerous conferences in their MUN career, but also being highly commended award winners in their respective sectors.

Located in the heart of Pembroke Pines, SOFLOMUN has a wonderful environment for every single delegate. Our location allows delegates from Broward County, Miami-Dade, and other surrounding communities to get the chance to partcipate in our conference. SOFLOMUN prides itself in being in the sunshine state, and we hope that you enjoy your time here too!
