At SOFLOMUN, there will be five committees available. GA and crisis committees are offered to delegates looking to explore Model United Nations, being offered to delegates at any level. We also have a Specialized committee, acting as a mixture of Crisis and GA, which is mainly aimed towards delegates who are seasoned in MUN. This conference is also offering an ADHOC, only recommended to higher level delegates. This year, we also offer a Bilingual-Spanish committee, allowing delegates to face global issues in a different language.
Committee Staff applications for directors are open from April 6th, and close May 4th. Staff applications for chairs open May 5th, and close June 8th.
The following committees are being offered at this year's, SOFLOMUN!
Awards at SOFLOMUN are based on a strict matrix that is upheld between all our chairs across committee sessions. At SOFLOMUN, awards are based on five factors: Research, Oratory, Collaboration, Writing, and Procedure. These five factors are the deciding factors in awards, and delegates who show excellence in all five are most likely to receive an award up to the discretion of our directors and chairs.
SOFLOMUN also wants delegates to leave feeling more confident in their abilities, which is why our chairs and directors will be offering feedback after committee sessions. Not only to ensure improvement throughout the conference, but to also provide a chance for delegates to take any criticism and use it to improve in their future conferences.
Our conference offers four types of unique awards across four of our committees. Best Delegate is the delegate who displays absolute expertise in all categories, winning first place overall. Outstanding Delegate is the second best delegate in the committee, while Honorable Mention is our third place delegate. Finally, Verbal Commendations are given to delegates who also deserve the recognition for displaying exceptional performance in committee. In addition, our GA committee will have a Best Position Paper award based on the position papers written by delegates prior to committee. Meanwhile, our Bilingual-Spanish committee will also have a Bilingual Excellence award, original to our conference. This award is meant to specifically recognize a delegate that successfully navigates debate best in two different languages.
One thing done to recognize the advanced nature of our ADHOC committee is that instead of doing traditional awards, in ADHOC, three gavels and two verbal commendation awards. This is simply to put more recognition on the effort that delegates put in an advanced level committee such as this one.
Based on our well assigned award system, awards will be given to different delegations based on different factors. For example, one factor is the type of committee. Delegations in the intermediate or beginner level committees will have their awards scored as below.
Best Delegate: 10
Outstanding Delegate: 7
Honorable Delegate: 5
Verbal Commendation: 3
Best Position Paper (ONLY GA): 3
Bilingual Excellence (ONLY Bilingual): 4
Meanwhile ADHOC, being our advanced level committee, will have a slight increase on the worth of their scores. Once again, this is to recognize the difficulty of an ADHOC committee, and provide delegates with deserved points based on the difficulty of the committee.
Best Delegate: 15
Verbal Commendation: 5
Once these are tallied up by our experienced staff, awards are based on the amount of people within a delegation. If a delegation has only three or less people, they are NOT eligible for delegation awards to ensure fairness and lack of point-stacking. Delegations with 4-8 people are considered a "Small Delegation" while "Large Delegations" have nine or more people. If they fall into either of these ranges they have the eligibility to win one of three delegation awards:
Outstanding Delegation: the second best delegation OVERALL across both categories
Best Small Delegation: the delegation with 4-8 delegates that scores the most points across the Small Delegation category
Best Large Delegation: the delegation with 9+ delegates that scores the most points across the Large Delegation category
We hope you enjoy our straight forward and transparent system of awarding, and if you have any questions do not be afraid to contact us. Remember that based on behavior, SOFLOMUN has the power to withdrawl any awards from delegates who display behavior against our Code of Conduct. Our staff at SOFLOMUN love garnering competitive delegates ready to tackle issues happening in our real world today, and we'd love to help you in any way, shape, or form.
