The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust STEAM Symposium is for you!!!

An all-day STEAM Symposium for grades 6-12, highlighting unique and authentic professional applications of 

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in the Arts.

In this full day Symposium, student groups will rotate through interactive workshops focusing on key industries facilitated by professional artists and industry leaders.

Key Industries include:

Augmented Reality

Design Thinking

Digital Art

Digital Storytelling

Filmmaking

Immersive Experience Design

Music Production

Sound Art

Stop Motion Animation

When: November 18th or 19th, 2026

The program is free, but there MAY be a bus fee.

Most suitable for 9th and 10th grade students, but upperclassmen with high interest will also be considered.

The Carnegie Museums are now accepting submissions for their fourth annual "Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh" art contest.

Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh invites artists across the region to explore what it means to belong, to feel grounded and to imagine Pittsburgh as a place where everyone can live and thrive. 

We invite community artists across the region to submit new work that is bold, authentic, and rooted in care. Artists are encouraged to draw from lived experience, community sharing, memory, storytelling, research, and imagination to help us collectively envision a more just and equitable Pittsburgh. We invite our partners to continue shaping this project alongside us, strengthening the connections between culture, community, and justice. 

Together, we ask: How can Pittsburgh be a just and equitable home for all? 

Youth Arts (Grade 6th–8th and Grade 9th–12th):

• Visual Art 

• Performance 

• Video & Interdisciplinary

High School Winners – First Place: $500 | Second Place: $250

SiO2 is the chemical formula for glass and the name of our glass art program designed for young people.  SiO2 shatters the conventional notion that glass art is only for adults. The program’s hands-on courses are structured specifically for young people and are taught in one of the United States’ premier glass facilities. All four of our state-of-the-art studios are open for young adults to explore their creative potential and embark on an education in glass. 

SiO2 students not only create glass art and learn the scientific principles of glass, they experience valuable life lessons through studio practice. Successful studio glass pieces often cannot be produced by one person alone, so while learning and creating, students are shown the fundamental significance of teamwork, discipline, communication, and mutual respect. Such experiences, in turn, help students understand the nature of leadership and ultimately foster a sense of achievement. Click here for various classes and workshops.
