Frequently Asked Questions for 21-22 Applications


  • What is the Accuplacer or WritePlacer?

    • The WritePlacer portion of the Accuplacer is a 300-600 word essay written with a provided prompt. This is to assess college level writing skills. Students should focus on developing their point of view to show off their writing skills.

  • What score do I need to get on the WritePlacer to be considered for Dual Enrollment?

    • You must score at least a 5 or higher on the WritePlacer to be eligible for Dual Enrollment. This will be considered with other aspects of the application and does not guarantee acceptance.

    • What English course will I take based on my scores?

    • A score of 6 or higher on the WritePlacer qualifies you for Eng 101, which is a 3 credit course.

    • A 5 on the WritePlacer will qualify you to take Eng 100. Eng 100 is a 5 credit bridge course. Students and parents would be required to pay for the extra 2 credits.

  • How can I prepare for the Accuplacer (WritePlacer) exam?

  • How do I sign up to take the Accuplacer (WritePlacer) exam?

    • Visit the CSN website here. You will make an appointment using RegisterBlast. Appointments should be secured by March 18 and all tests and-tests completed by April 28.

  • What is the ALEKS test?

    • This is the math placement test for CSN.

  • Is it required to take the ALEKS test?

    • If you are planning to take Algebra II with Pinecrest, you do not need to take the ALEKS test. The ALEKS test is required for any students that are currently in Algebra II and will need to take the next level math with CSN.

  • What course do I need to place into on the ALEKS test?

    • Students currently taking Algebra II or Algebra II H, should be able to place into MATH 126 Precalculus I. It is also possible to place into MATH 126E. This is considered a 6 credit bridge course, and students that place into MATH 126E will be responsible for paying for the extra 3 credits.

  • How do I get a letter of recommendation?

    • This is a letter about you from a close family friend, religious leader, coach, or any adult in your life that can attest to your readiness to handle college classes.

  • How many letters of recommendation do I need?

    • Just one letter is needed.

  • How much does it cost?

    • At this time, there is little to no cost to families. Families are responsible for the purchase of textbooks. Grants are written each year so this is subject to change.

  • How do I get to my CSN classes?

    • If you have your license, you may use your personal car to drive to CSN.

    • Students are able to carpool at the discretion of their parents permission.
