Students are supported in their STEM learning through adult-world connections and extended-day opportunities.

Pinecrest Academy St. Rose prides itself on offering many STEM related opportunities and clubs for all our learners. These activities happen before, after, and during school hours. We have active parents and community members that contribute to our STEM programs and enhance our students’ opportunities here at school.

One of our after-school programs includes the Lego League. Our students participated in many competitions and was awarded a Lego cup for their hard work and dedication to the league.

We had several female students participate in the Girls in Math competition over the past few years. The girls participate in a variety of mathematical activities, questions, and challenges. It has really provided to be a great opportunity for female students to engage in math in a fun and competitive way.

One of our most popular field trips is to the Catalina Island Marine Institute (CIMI). Students get to experience a 3-day trip with their classmates to explore the marine institute in a hands-on way. They made wonderful memories exploring all that CIMI had to offer.

Pinecrest Academy St. Rose hosts an annual career week which invites presenters from all fields to speak to our students about their careers. Many professionals from STEM focused careers join us to foster excitement and engagement in our students who wish to pursue careers in similar fields. Community members and parents play a large role in making this experience possible.

Teachers and students are also able to connect with community members through video conferencing. Teachers can sign up through the Zoom app to interview professionals in fields relating to units they may be learning about in class. With the help of Ralph Krauss, many opportunities are available for teachers to partner with scientists and historians.
