ST 1.9

Self-Assessment Rating: 4

STEM teachers and leaders participate in a continuous program of STEM-specific professional learning.

Pinecrest St. Rose Teachers agree STEM curriculum is the best way to prepare the students for future success post high school. In order for teachers to be teaching STEM at the optimum level, ongoing professional development is a must.

The St. Rose STEM Leadership completed the Nevada State Accreditation which included monthly workshops to enhance incorporating daily STEM infusion. Led by the Nevada Governor's Office of Science, Innovation and Technology. Leaders and teachers from the campus joined with counter parts from across the valley to collaborate and learn new ways to incorporate meaningful STEM learning. Beginning with a clear definition of what STEM education is and how it looks in the classroom, the cohort completed strategic planning, logic models, SMART goals, and created an individualized action plan to implement in each home school.

Another professional development ongoing for our teachers is our launch of Project Lead the Way module and gateway training. All of our elementary school teachers have completed the PTLW Launch Module Training and have implemented the program in their classrooms. This process has ensured daily STEM lessons are taught in every class. Our Middle School teachers have the opportunity to go through more in depth training for electives derived from STEM careers. These training classes go in depth to make sure our teachers can give our students the fundamental skills to build on for possible future STEM careers.

Teachers of Pinecrest Academy St. Rose many a plethora of opportunities to further their education and keep up to date with the latest in all curriculum. Pinecrest Academy offers financial reimbursement for teachers who are interested in continuing education classes. As the field of education grows, this allows for teachers to be up to date on the newest strategies, procedures and protocols without burdening the family's budget. Our staff is also encouraged to attend the annual Staff Development for Teachers Conference. This professional development provides up to date thorough instruction on relevant topics of teaching today. The SDE conference ignites excitement and passion as the new school year kicks off.
