Darien Lake Competition Trip

Saturday, June 1st 2019

The 5/6 Grade Music Department (band and chorus) will be taking a trip to compete at Darien Lake at the Darien Lake Music Festival on June 1st. This competition draws bands from all over New York State to perform for placement, critique, and awards.

Students will be leaving EJD at 8:00 am that morning. Students will be returning at 10 pm.

Performance Times:

5th Grade Band 2:30 pm (Site 4)

6th Grade Band 3:00 pm (Site 4)

5/6 Chorus: 3:30 pm (Site 3)

The cost of this competition is being paid for from funds that were raised during our cookie dough sale in the fall. Students will have admission and free time in the park before and after performing, as well as 1 free popcorn voucher. Students can bring food or purchase food within the park. Please budget for both a lunch and a dinner. Food typically runs about $7-$10 per meal. Students can also elect to bring extra money for games/extras/storage lockers, if they like.

In order to be successful with our competition, it is very important that all students are in attendance. If you have a known conflict, please let us know as soon as possible.

Before and after competing, students will be allowed to enjoy the attractions of the park in groups with a chaperone. However, students and their chaperone need to be careful in regards to wait time in line to make sure that they are not late to their competition. If a student is waiting in line for a ride that would make them late for competition, they must exit the line.

It is very important for safety reasons that the students follow the directions of their assigned chaperone. Students will be allowed to sign up for what group they would like to spend the day with. I am encouraging students to pick friends with similar interests in rides so they can maximize their enjoyment in the park.

Any parents, friends, relatives that would like to enjoy the day at the park and watch their child perform can enter the park at a special rate. When you arrive at the park, go to the group sales window, and let them know that you are with the Emerson J. Dillon Music Department, who is competing. Tickets will be available for $16.99 each ($17.32 after taxes).
