Select Band

On Wednesday, December 18th, the EJD Music Department will be once again traveling to DESTINY during the school day to perform holiday tunes in the canyon area of the mall. Since this time of year is very early for our 5th graders in their instrumental learning, I would like to open up this opportunity to select 5th grade band student. Below is the criteria outlined that students will need to accomplish to get the reward of participating in this trip. This trip is something “extra”; it is not expected that all students will be able to play to this challenge by the “audition” date, and that’s perfectly fine. This is just for students who want the extra challenge and have the time and personal drive to learn above the basic expectation level of our program.

During lessons, students received “Up on the Housetop” and “The Hanukkah Song." This music will be gone over during lessons, but the expectation is that students will need to practice this music quite diligently on their own, as it will be challenging for their currently level. They can request to stay after for extra help if they are struggling with some of the notes/concepts, but the majority of the learning process must be done during their own, at-home, individual practice.

Week of November 4th: Students who are interested in going on the trip and have prepared the music will play it individually as an “Audition” for Mrs. Young during their small group lesson. Only students who show an acceptable level of proficiency (demonstrate that they are not struggling with the notes, rhythms, tempo (speed), etc. as deemed by Mrs. Young), will be selected to play for the select mall group.

The list of students who passed their “Audition” will posted on Tuesday, November 12th and letters will be sent home.

Students who make the select group WILL NEED to be available the following dates for after-school rehearsals as a group. If they are unable to make the rehearsals because of sports or other conflicts, they cannot attend as this is our only opportunities to rehearse these tunes as a group. They will be allowed to miss 1 rehearsal due to illness or personal conflicts, but after that, will be pulled out of the select group and cannot attend the mall concert.
