GRADING

5th Grade band

(Students must attend 8 lessons per marking period)

LESSONS

60 percent of overall grade

Each lesson is graded out of 100 points. Students will be graded on their successful preparation and performance of the lesson material that was assigned the prior week. These assignment can all be found on the band google classroom. Grades for the assignments will also be inputted, in real time, into Schooltool. Please check frequently to ensure that your student has been attending lessons.

Lessons missed for any reason will be marked as a zero, and the student will be able to make the lesson up. Due to limited re-scheduling opportunities, students who miss a lesson will need to arrange to make it up within 1 week of the missed lesson (unless they are out for a prolonged absence.) Lessons not made up within the week will result in permanent 0 points for that lesson. Students will not be allowed to make up multiple lessons at the end of the marking period to retroactively fix their grade. 

Band Rehearsals/Concerts

(20 percent of overall grade)

Deductions from the 20 points is as follows:

-          Forgot instrument (-1 point per instance)

-          Refusing to play or participate (-1 point per instance)

-          Did not attend concert (-10 points)

Quarterly Playing Exams

(20 points) These exams happen toward the end of each marking period during the students regularly scheduled lesson. As long as students are routinely practicing and attending lessons, it should be easy to achieve a high grade on the playing exams.

                10 points for a pre-assigned, memorized scale

                10 points for a sight-reading example.
