The NOCTI exam is our end-of-program assessment for eligible students. The NOCTI exam consists of a written (multiple choice) component and a practical (hands on) component. Students must score competent on both parts of the exam in order to pass. A competent score is determined by cut scores set by the state (PDE/BCTE). Cut scores are tied to the performance of all other students take that program's NOCTI exam. In effect, cut scores may change from year to year. Rarely does it change drastically. Industry certifications are another essential part of a CTE program's responsibilities. All students must be given the opportunity to take an industry certification exam that is approved by PDE/BCTE. Industry certifications are our way of ensuring that our students have mastered content, have a credential that can be used for employment, or be used for post-secondary credit. All students that complete a CTE program are obligated (must) take the NOCTI. It is require by PDE and just the attempt at taking the exam is required for program approval.
