Materials: Marker (with water based ink), paper, spray bottle , tray

1) Crumble your paper into a ball. Now uncrumble it a bit and lay it in your tray. Your paper now resembles a landscape complete with mountains, hills, and valleys.

2) use your marker to trace the "high points". Any peaks should be covered nicely with ink.

3) Spray the paper with your bottle and notice how the water causes the ink to run.

-This running water mimics the formation of rivers and streams. The running water will collect in ponds and lakes.

4) Take note in your science journal*, Where does the water run? Where does it pool up or collect?
