In order for students to be academically successful, they have to come to school. While we understand situations arise, such as illness and family emergencies, each day.a student is absent they are missing valuable instruction.

ABSENCES & TARDIES
ABSENCES
If your son or daughter has to miss school. they are required to provide an excuse note within 72 hours of their return with the following information:
Student's Name
Date(s) of absence
Reason for absence
This excuse note will serve as documentation of your child's absence. Teachers will provide make-up assignments within 48 hours of a students' return, as long as an excuse note is provided.
Without a valid excuse note, students may not be given access to the assignments they missed.
TARDIES
School begins promptly at 8:30 am and it is the expectation that all students are in their first period class on time. Students who are late should report to the Main Office to receive a tardy pass to be admitted to class. The current bell schedule allows students seven (7) minutes in between classes.
Hall sweeps will be held and students who are caught in hall sweep will face the following progressive disciplinary actions:
FIRST OFFENSE: Written warning
SECOND OFFENSE: In-School Suspension
THIRD OFFENSE: Parent Conference
FOURTH OFFENSE: Out of school suspension
WHAT IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE?
According to the attendance policy set forth by Prince George's County Public Schools, the follow constitute an excused absence:
Death in the immediate family
Illness of the student
Behavioral health needs
Pregnancy and parenting related conditions
Court summons;
Hazardous weather conditions
Work approved or sponsored by the school
Observance of a religious holiday
State of emergency
Suspension
Lack of authorized transportation
Health Exclusion, which includes immunizations and other health-related communicable or contagious diseases;
Absence due to Military Families.
Mental Health Day (one per semester)
The following are excused for up to three days: civic engagement, college tours and interviews
Any student who misses 10% of the school days, whether lawful or unlawful absences, including suspensions for at least:
Four days in a quarter;
Nine days in a semester;
Eighteen days in a school year.
Any student who is unlawfully absent from school more than 20% of any grading period, semester, or school year. There may be legal consequences when a student is habitually truant for at least:
Nine days in a quarter;
Eighteen days in a semester;
Thirty-six days in a school year.
