Proposal

Research Practicum Proposal Form

Hypothesis Based

The proposal should follow the format below. The proposal should be concise, but detailed enough for the teacher to be able to judge the appropriateness and feasibility of the study.

Student Name – Period

RP Teacher Name:

Date Due:

Area of Research

This is the big picture.

Statement of Problem This statement should be written in complete a complete sentence(s). Your statement should not be listed in question form. This section discusses your part of the big picture. It is a concise, clear, explicit, and complete presentation of the problem. It must be sufficiently detailed so that the reader is informed of the magnitude and the scope of the study.

Hypothesis

State your hypothesis after you have completed some literature review on the topic. If applicable, state more than one hypothesis or sub-hypothesis.

Variables

● Independent

● Dependent

● Controlled

● Control group

● Measurements used to determine the variables

Method

Materials- Please provide a list; be thorough.

Procedures - Please provide a list; be thorough.

Feasibility

Include the following when developing this section:

1. Is there enough research to support your project?**

2. Where will you access/purchase the necessary equipment and materials? Are you or your mentor legally allowed to purchase/access them?

3. How much will the equipment/materials cost, and can you afford that?

4. Where will you be conducting your research?

5. Can descriptive statistics be performed?**

6. Can inferential statistics (t-test, ANOVA, chi-square, regressions) be performed?**

7. How many trials are feasible? (rule of thumb is 30) How long will each individual trial take? Total time?

8. How can the project be repeated?

9. Do you need adult supervision? Does that adult need certain qualifications?

10. What are the safety issues and concerns associated with your project?**

**some items may require further guidance from your mentor or RP teacher

Approved: Yes_____ No_____

Note: Once a proposal has been approved, all major alterations or changes to the proposed research format must be submitted for immediate amendment approval. Altered projects submitted without this approval will not be accepted.

Research Practicum Proposal Form

Design Based

The proposal should follow the format below. The proposal should be concise, but detailed enough for the teacher to be able to judge the appropriateness and feasibility of the study.

Area of Research

This is the big picture.

Statement of Problem

Identify the need and explain the problem your design is attempting to solve. This statement should be written in complete a complete sentence(s). Your statement should not be listed in question form. This section discusses your part of the big picture. It is a concise, clear, explicit, and complete presentation of the problem. It must be sufficiently detailed so that the reader is informed of the magnitude and the scope of the study.

Problem Parameters

Define the problem with a listing of design parameters, guidelines, characteristics, requirements and limitation. (Note: For now you may combine parameters into one listing.)

Description of Proposed Design Solution

Neatly-drawn, computer-generated sketch(es) AND/OR flowchart(s)/pseudo code must accompany this brief description per industry norms. If applicable, the first sketch/flowchart/pseudo code should reflect current or pre-existing conditions while subsequent sketch(es)/flowchart(s)/pseudo code will depict your design proposal. All sketches must be drawn to scale and include major dimensions and construction features along with labeled components. In cases where a new concept device is being developed it may be difficult to produce a sketch depicting pre-existing conditions, however, the prototype must be represented in written as well as graphic form.

Proposed Procedures- Sequence and technique must be listed in detail

Proposed Method of Experimentation - Proposed evaluation and testing technique
