What is RP?

All Science and Technology seniors are required to submit the proposal for an original yearlong research project to his or her RP teacher for approval or revision. The project must be either hypothesis-based or design-based. Once approved, the student will begin implementation.

Areas of research include biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, etc.

The students are guided through the entire project in the course, Research Practicum (RP).

The RP teacher is the advisor to each student, steering the student through the different aspects of the project. On occasion, the teacher call in a person well versed in the student’s area of research to advise the student on a particular topic. The student receives additional support from the Media Specialist and the “Linda’s title.:

Students collect data, use statistics to analyze the data, write a five- chapter thesis-type paper, all under the guidance of the RP teacher, and then present their findings at the school science fair and at the annual Research Practicum Symposium.
