Our Program
COURSE SEQUENCE
At Northwestern High School, Project Lead the Way is the following sequence of courses:
9th Grade - Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
10th Grade - Principles of Engineering (POE)
11th Grade - Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) AND Digital Electronics (DE)
12th Grade - Engineering Design and Development (EDD)
NOTES
Students should take all of the five courses listed above, in the sequence order shown, in order to receive a PLTW certificate of completion.
A student MAY enter the program in the 10th grade by taking IED and POE at the same time.
Students enrolled in PLTW should NOT be enrolled in Foundations of Technology. Principles of Engineering satisfies the Technology Education 1 credit requirement.

David Lee
PLTW Coordinator, Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Engineering Design and Development
Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Mr. Lee currently resides in Severna Park, Maryland, and has always had a fascination with big machines. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University, and later a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Virginia. Before switching careers, he was a mechanical engineer at the Electronic Systems sector of Northrop Grumman, one of the world's largest aerospace and defense contractors, here in Maryland.
Noel Odronia, EdD.
Civil Engineering and Architecture, Digital Electronics
Originally from the Philippines, Dr. Odronia currently resides in Hyattsville. He received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Industrial Education from the Technological University of the Philippines, and later a Doctor of Education degree in Industrial Education Management. Dr. Odronia also has over 30 years of teaching experience.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS
Project Lead the Way Engineering at Northwestern High School is a rigorous program of study. To enroll and continue in the program, students must commit to and meet high standards of academic achievement.
Students are expected to attend classes consistently. At least 94% attendance is required to join and remain in the program.
Students should have an academic and/or career interest in a STEM field.
Students should enjoy working with computers and performing hands-on activities.
Students should maintain a GPA of at least 2.5.
PLTW Engineering involves teamwork. Students are expected to participate in team projects and actively contribute to meeting team objectives.
Students should have no more than one (1) Student Discipline Referral (PS-74).
