Northwestern High School offers a nationally recognized engineering program called Project Lead the Way. This program is designed to help address the industry shortage of skilled engineers, technologists, and technicians in the United States by introducing students to various engineering fields. In our PLTW program, students develop in-demand, transportable skills – such as problem solving, critical and creative thinking, collaboration, and communication – that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take. The Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering program introduces students to the scope, rigor, and discipline of engineering and engineering technology. Please watch the videos below showing the national PLTW program, and the program at Prince George's County Public Schools.
The Project Lead the Way Activity, Project, and Problem-based (APB) instructional approach provides students with unique opportunities to work collaboratively, identify problems, apply what they know, persevere through challenges, find unique solutions, and lead their own learning. Our capstone course, Engineering Design and Development, gives seniors the opportunity to work on a single project for an entire school year and connect with academic and industry professionals.
Please check out the videos below, visit our Program page, see our FAQ's page, and fill out the application if you would like to join our program. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the PLTW Coordinator, David Lee, at david2.lee@pgcps.org.
