Hi! My name is Amy Comisiak and I will be teaching all of the newcomers in grades 3-6 this year. The curriculum is specifically designed for students who are in their first year of learning English and the best part is that all of this will be done bilingually as there is tons of research that shows that incorporating a student's first language helps not only in the acquisition of their second language but in practically every other aspect of learning as well.

A little about me... I am from right down the street in Takoma Park Maryland. After graduating from Towson University I decided to spend a few years in Costa Rica teaching English and learning Spanish. When I came back to the area and began working as a teacher, I knew that ESOL was the position for me, and teaching newcomers has become my pride and joy. I am so happy to be here at Cherokee Lane and cannot wait to meet you!

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Amy Comisiak y enseñaré a todos los recién llegados en los grados 3-6 este año. El plan de estudios está diseñado específicamente para estudiantes que están en su primer año de aprendizaje de inglés y la mejor parte es que todo esto se hará de manera bilingüe ya que hay un variedad de estudios que muestran que incorporar el primer idioma de un estudiante ayuda no solo en la adquisición de su segundo idioma, sino también en prácticamente todos los demás aspectos del aprendizaje.

Un poco sobre mí... Soy de Takoma Park, Maryland (muy cerca!). Después de graduarme de la Universidad de Towson, decidí pasar unos años en Costa Rica enseñando inglés y aprendiendo español. Cuando regresé al área y comencé a trabajar como maestra, supe que ensenando ingles como segunda idioma era el area para mí, y enseñar a los recién llegados se ha convertido en mi orgullo y alegría. ¡Estoy muy feliz de estar aquí en Cherokee Lane y no puedo esperar para conocerte!
