Community Safety Night in Collaboration with Bucklodge MS!!!

Hosting a Thanksgiving feast at school for families is a wonderful way to celebrate community, promote family engagement, and teach students about gratitude. Here’s a solid justification for organizing the event:
Community Building: A school Thanksgiving feast fosters a sense of unity among students, teachers, families, and staff, strengthening bonds within the school community. Gathering together creates lasting memories and builds a culture of mutual support and connection.
Cultural and Historical Education: Thanksgiving is an opportunity to teach students about gratitude, historical context, and cultural traditions. The feast allows students to learn and reflect on these values through shared experiences with family members, enriching their understanding in an engaging, hands-on way.
Family Engagement: By inviting families, the event actively involves parents and caregivers in the school environment. Research shows that family engagement can significantly impact student success, and shared events like this offer a warm, welcoming space for families to connect with teachers and staff.
Character Development: The Thanksgiving season encourages values like kindness, gratitude, and empathy. Hosting a feast models these values in action, as students witness the joy of sharing and giving thanks, helping them internalize these important traits.
Inclusive Celebration: This feast can be an inclusive celebration of gratitude that embraces all families and cultures, allowing families to share their unique traditions and dishes. It provides an opportunity to embrace diversity and recognize the variety of ways gratitude and togetherness are celebrated across cultures.
Our Mental health counselors led the way and also were able to invite our community officers to talk about the importance of DRUG SAFETY!
October 23rd & October 24th
We were joined by our community partner Ms. Rajni Director at Brighter Bites! And we raffled off tickets to win a chance to eat and sit with Mr. G!!! The students had a blast learning about healthy eating!

Requiring fingerprints for families within a school community can be justified based on several key factors that focus on safety, accountability, and community trust:
Enhanced Security: Fingerprinting provides a reliable method of verifying identities and helps prevent unauthorized individuals from gaining access to school premises. This can significantly reduce risks associated with potential threats, ensuring that only trusted individuals are allowed near students.
Background Checks: Fingerprints can be used in background checks to identify any criminal records or concerns about individuals regularly interacting with children. This is particularly important for maintaining a safe environment, as it ensures that all individuals around students, including family members, have been vetted.
Accountability and Transparency: When families are fingerprinted, it creates a transparent system of accountability, ensuring that the school community knows who is present in the school and who has access to sensitive areas. This helps in tracking and managing visitors more effectively.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance: In some regions, fingerprinting may be required by law or as part of the school district’s policy for ensuring student safety. Implementing such measures can help schools comply with state or local regulations.
Community Trust: Introducing fingerprinting fosters a sense of safety and trust within the school community. Parents are more likely to feel confident that their children are safe when the school takes comprehensive steps to secure the campus from external threats.
While these reasons support the use of fingerprinting, it is also important to balance them with concerns over privacy and the potential need for clear communication with families about how the data is used and stored.

It’s fun! Remember the thrill of riding a bike for the first time or walking or rolling to school on the first day? There’s a feeling of joy and independence—a sense of adventure—that doesn’t fade. Of course, there are many other benefits to walking, biking or rolling to school, too.
Active trips to school enable children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Regular physical activity helps children build strong bones, muscles and joints, and it decreases the risk of obesity. In contrast, insufficient physical activity can contribute to chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke.
Providence, RIThe whole community benefits from efforts to enable and encourage more children to walk, bike or roll to school safely. Benefits include:
Less traffic congestion. According to the 2011 National Center for Safe Routes to School report, personal vehicles taking students to school accounted for 10 to 14 percent of all personal vehicle trips made during the morning peak commute times (based on National Household Travel Survey Data, 2009). Reducing the number of private vehicles commuting to school can reduce morning traffic around the school. Less traffic congestion also improves conditions for pedestrians and bicyclists, creating a positive cycle—as the community sees more people walking and rolling, more people feel comfortable walking and rolling.
Stronger sense of community. The common goal of improving conditions for walking and bicycling brings families, neighbors, school officials and community leaders together. The sense of community also builds as children and parents develop walking and rolling buddies and chat with neighbors on the sidewalk or path.
Safer streets. Communities with higher rates of walking and rolling tend to have lower crash rates for all travel modes. One reason may be that motorists drive more cautiously when they expect to encounter walkers and rollers. More walkers and rollers can also improve personal security by providing more “eyes on the street.”
Lower costs. Encouraging and enabling active trips reduces costs for the family, community and school district. Families save on gas, communities spend less on building and maintaining roads and school districts spend less on busing. In fact, one school district calculated $237,000 in annual savings.
Improved accessibility. Enabling students of all abilities to walk and roll to school makes it easier for everyone in the community to get around, including parents with strollers, senior citizens, residents without cars and residents with temporary or permanent mobility impairments.
Economic gains. Sidewalks, paths and other investments in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure can increase home values and direct additional traffic to local businesses.
