Happy Friday, Parents!
As we approach distribution day next week, I want to remind everyone to register if you need support. Please let me know before distribution day if you have any questions or need assistance.
I’d also like to kindly remind everyone that this resource is meant for families in our school community who truly need the support. By being mindful of this, we can ensure that we are providing for those who need it most.
At CLES, we are proud to be a community school, and by offering these resources, we strengthen the partnership between the school and our families. Together, we are working to ensure that all our students have the food and support they need to come to school ready to learn and succeed.
Supporting attendance is also one of my key responsibilities, and I’m always thinking of ways to help our families so students can come to school every day. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work together to meet the needs of our community.
Let’s make it a great Friday!

Department of Food & Nutrition Services is pleased to announce the expansion of Prince George’s County Public
Schools participation in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Community Eligibility Provision
(CEP) Program for schools and school districts. One hundred and twenty-four (124) schools were selected for
participation for SY 23-24. This is a wonderful opportunity for the district to provide nutrition meals at no cost to
approximately 82,000 students.
What is the Community Eligibility Provision Program?
The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) is a non-pricing meal service option for schools and school districts in
low-income areas. CEP allows the nation’s highest poverty schools and districts to serve breakfast and lunch at
no cost to all enrolled students without collecting household applications. Instead, schools that adopt CEP are
reimbursed using a formula based on the percentage of students categorically eligible for free meals based on
their participation in other specific means-tested programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
What does it mean for your school?
● Breakfast and lunch are free to all students.
● More nourished students to improve academic performance.
● Meal benefit applications are not collected for students enrolled in CEP schools. This eliminates the
burden of collecting lunch applications.
● Eliminates the need for schools to establish a Principal loan account and to track unpaid meal charges.
● Improved program integrity and accountability.
● All students enrolled in CEP school are entitled to all benefits and services afforded to students who are
eligible for free meals.
What do you need to communicate with households and the school community?
● Meals will be free.
● Do not complete a meal benefit application for their student enrolled in a CEP school.
● Snacks and beverages will be sold a la carte.
● Funds can be deposited in the student lunch accounts for the purchase of a la carte items.
● Students will be required to use their lunch account PIN# number for meal service.
THE US IS ENDING EXTRA FOOD STAMP BENEFITS THAT STARTED DURING COVID!
For the average food stamps recipient, the change will mean about $90 less per month in grocery assistance, though for many, it could be much more.
