Condition: A players’ clubs must conform to the grooves and punch mark conditions of competition.
Rule 4.3a(1): The use of distance-measuring devices will be allowed at the 2023 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Professional Championship during competition rounds in accordance with Rule 4.3a(1) in the Rules of Golf. To help clarify what this means:
Distance and Directional Information:
Allowed: Getting information on distance or direction (such as from a distance-measuring device or compass).
Not Allowed: Measuring or calculating elevation changes, wind speed, “effective yardages” or interpreting distance or directional information (such as using a device to get a recommended line of play or club selection based on the location of a player’s ball).
If a distance-measuring device has any additional functionality referenced as not allowed (above), the use of any such additional function would be a breach of Rule 4.3a(1).
We are hopeful that allowing the use of such devices will help players and caddies determine their yardages and club selection in a more efficient manner.
If you have any questions on the use of such devices during competition rounds, we encourage you to speak with or ask any PGA of
America Rules Committee Member.
