Duo Safety vs Alco-Lite
The Pflugerville Fire Department employs solid beam Duo Safety aluminum ladders as the frontline ladders on all apparatus. The load capacity of each rung is 1,000 lbs and hooks on the roof ladders are rated at 1,000 lbs per hook and for each pair of hooks, it's 2,000 lbs. All Duo Safety Ladders are designed to be thrown "fly out" and Department procedure is "fly out" but a memo below explains the capabilities of these ladders when thrown "fly in".Â
The Department does not use Alco-Lite ladders on any frontline apparatus. Alco-Lite ladders are used in training primarily for the cadet academy. These ladders differ from Duo Safety ladders in that they are heavier and do not meet NFPA requirements if they are thrown "fly-in". All ladders are rated for 750 lbs as required by the NFPA except for the 10' attic ladder which is rated for 300 lbs
