Symphonic Winds

Symphonic Winds Director: Allegra Wolff

Course Description:  Symphonic Winds is a performance-oriented ensemble for students with at least one year of band experience. Students focus on their fundamental playing skills and begin instruction on full-band music.  

• For 7th and 8th Grade students. Selection into this group is by audition.

• UIL performing ensemble

• Have weekly sectionals after school (as scheduled)

• Encouraged to take private lessons

• Students will perform at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading in Spring and a Spring Concert in May

• Optional participation in All-Region auditions

• Participate in Solo & Ensemble

• Students have the opportunity to participate in a Spring Trip that includes a concert performance

• Daily Practice at Home:  Daily practice is the student’s homework in band class and is necessary to make steady progress. Every student is expected to practice at home regularly. We recommend a minimum of 15-20 minutes of home practice, five days a week. Some students may need more than that to achieve their musical goals. Students will have specific exercises and songs to practice and review the material presented in that day’s class. You can help by confirming that they are practicing and not just “playing around” on the instrument. It’s not the amount of time practiced that makes the greatest difference; it’s the quality of the practice session.
