Jazz Band

This Jazz program will continue to be an integral part of the overall music education of our Cele students. This group provides extra opportunities for our students to play challenging and diverse musical literature otherwise not offered within the school day. Students are placed by audition and teacher approval. The instrumentation required for the Jazz band is the trombone, saxophone, trumpet, drum set, bass guitar or double bass, and piano, but any band instrument can participate in Jazz Band. Students are required to be enrolled in another band to perform with the Jazz Band.

This group will focus on performance, history, and interpretation of jazz music throughout American history. A core component of this group will be improvisation and soloing. There will be a discussion of important people, genres, and events in the history of jazz. The students will learn students learn to play various styles of jazz, including rock, swing, and Latin jazz.

The Jazz band will perform for the community throughout the year and at a Spring Festival.
