Capacity Development for STI Coordination: Enhancing STI Project Proposals through Mock-Interviews
Guide for Presenters
● Pre-mock interview
○ Decide on a project proposal considering:
■ A project that would benefit from feedback by experienced reviewers for further refinement
■ Relevance to any STI field, preferably related to the overarching theme of the conference, or at minimum, addressing any of the grand challenges
■ May be research-based, or of other types (e.g., mobility & exchange, capacity building, community outreach, applied innovation, policy development, or other STI activities of relevant significance)
○ Submit a one-page project abstract in English via email address:
areef.t@aunsec.org, by 10 September 2026, following the format provided by the organizing committee.
○ Prepare a clear and focused presentation for the mock-interview, keeping in mind the following:
■ Presentation rules:
● Use a PPT is highly encouraged
● No additional electronic media (e.g. audio, video)
● No additional props (e.g. costume, lab equipment)
● Presentations must not exceed 10 minutes
■ 5 assessment criteria:
● Scientific and technological value
● Social merits for ASEAN and Japan
● Feasibility of framework
● Implementation plan
● Demonstration of STI coordination skills
○ Receive “Assessment Sheet” from the organizing committee (for reference only - need to fill it in). Then carefully review the assessment criteria and scoring system.
Important Note:
1. Please note that this is not a technical sharing session, but rather a pitching exercise to a panel of commentators who may or may not be experts in your specific field. Therefore, we kindly encourage you to avoid overly technical presentations. Instead, please focus on communicating your ideas clearly, concisely, and in a way that is easily digestible for a broader audience.
2. Please ensure that both the project abstract and presentation materials do not contain any confidential information or content that may raise Intellectual Property (IP) concerns, as these materials will be accessible to the organizing committee, reviewed by reviewers, and viewed by fellow participants of the mock-interview.
● During mock interview
○ Attend and actively participate in the event, following the program schedule and details outlined in the “Event Profile” section above.
● Post-mock interview
○ Receive completed “Assessment Sheet” with feedback from the reviewers within 1-2 weeks to support further refinement of project proposal.
