Plagiarism is using other people's ideas and language without crediting them in your work, which means that you are presenting them as your own.
It is a serious offence when writing an academic essay or similar piece of coursework. As a result, you must credit any ideas you have taken from other sources by referencing them in your work.
Below are two guides to referencing your work correctly.
Reference Generator ( Harvard only)
This reference generator has been created to make referencing easier. Referencing is very important because it gives credit to the original authors of ideas and shows how much research you’ve done. This generator takes the hassle out of the process by helping you create accurate citations in no time. It’s a simple way to avoid plagiarism and keep your work professional. Â
Cite Them Right is the resource students should use when referencing sources at Petroc. The Library has several copies of the latest edition of Cite Them Right.
There is more than one style of referencing in academic papers, which all format the citations slightly differently. Therefore it is important that you know which style you need to use.
There are a few different referencing styles that various Petroc courses use:
Harvard (most subjects)
APA (some Psychology courses)
OSCOLA (some law courses)
Your tutors will know and should tell you which referencing style they wish you to use. If you are unsure, be sure to ask their advice first before referencing any work.
