Please email all book requests to Library@petroc.ac.uk
As a student or member of staff at Petroc, you are entitled to borrow a number of books from the Library, and have 24/7 access to articles, videos, and all other resources available on our eResources page.
There is also a selection of multimedia devices available to borrow on campus - this includes Chromebooks for use in-college and at home on a short term,ย and cameras, tripods, voice recorders and more.
Scroll down to see what you can borrow and when, and find advice on using our Library Catalogue if you need it.
All students can borrow up to 8 library books, and HE students and staff may borrow up to 10.
Most of these books are loaned for two weeks, however some of our more popular and essential texts are available for 1 week only. You can renew a loan on a book twice if there have been no other requests for it.ย
When your loan is approaching its end you will get an email letting you know it needs to be returned. If you would like to keep the book for longer, simply reply to that email to contact a member of staff.
You are welcome to browse the Library in person to find books, or you can search the Library Catalogue online for books and eBooks.
The online Library Catalogue has a new look! Find all of Petroc's books and eBooks, and you can now continue your search with one click to the Library's eResources. There is a support document below toย
You can request a book from a campus where you do not study. You can find our complete catalogue of books using the link above, and to request an item from another campus, first log in with your student number then select the book and click "Request" on the right hand side. Once the book is ready to collect from your chosen site, you will get an email to your student account.
If you prefer, you can also email library@petroc.ac.uk but take care to provide full details of the book's title, author, shelf-mark, and the site you wish to collect it from.
If a book you wish to borrow is currently on loan, you can click to Reserve it from the Library catalogue. You will need to select which site you wish to collect the book from.
If there is a book you really need but cannot find it on the Library Catalogue, please email library@petroc.ac.uk with as much detail as you can about the book. Ideally give the title, author(s), ISBN (barcode), and year of publication. Please also tell us about your course and why you need the book. We will then look at the viability of purchasing it, or contacting other libraries for an inter-library loan.
If you are requesting a journal article, you must fill out an article request form and attach it to your email. You can access the request form by clicking here (please make sure you are signed in with your Petroc account to access this).
If there is a book you have found on Primo via the University of Plymouth, and there is no electronic equivalent or an equivalent available in the Petroc Library, please contact library@petroc.ac.uk and give full details of the book you are looking for. We are able to request books from Plymouth if there is no other alternative.
If you have a print disability, you can sign up through Petroc Library to access RNIB Bookshare.ย
This programme is run by the Royal National Institute for Blind People (RNIB) and gives registered users access to digital copies of over 1,000,000 printed books. These enable you to read a book with Text-to-Speech software, larger font sizes or even have the work converted to braille.
A print disability is one which makes it difficult or impossible for you to read a printed book. This includes people who:
are blind or partially sighted, where corrective lenses do not improve your ability to read
have a learning difficulty such as dyslexia, autism or ADD
have a physical disability which affects your ability to read or even hold a book
If you think you could benefit from RNIB Bookshare, please contact the Library Services team at library@petroc.ac.uk so we can register you for an account. The service is free to use for registered users.
You can find out more about RNIB Bookshare at its website.

While on campus, you can issue one to yourself to last the day - just make sure to return it before the end of the day. This is great if you need a device to use in class.
If you need one to work from at home, you can borrow a Chromebook . This will be loaned to you until your next day in College, when you must return it. Speak to a member of staff in the Library to borrow one.
All Chromebooks are issued on a first come, first serve basis.
We have a range of multimedia equipment that students and staff can borrow, including cameras, tripods, microphones, lighting equipment, green screens and more. Perfect if you need to make a video project or similar.
These items are issued on a first come, first serve basis and students and staff should discuss with a member of staffย how long they will need a device for, and what device will be best.
Staff can also borrow a Meeting OWL, a 360 camera designed for hybrid lessons and meetings.
