Check out this video from when we first started growing our makerspace program during the 2017-18 school year!
We believe that all students deserve equal access to materials and experiences to build their 21st century skills, especially our underrepresented students. We believe that making invests students in their own learning and that creative learning is more fun.
By giving students the opportunity for choice, creative expression and collaboration, we give them the opportunity to see themselves as makers and have a sense of pride in their work. The makerspace also supports teachers in our continuing shift to student centered and subject integrated lessons.
Your Own Projects
During lunch time, you can use the materials in the Maker space to do a project of your own choice, or you may choose to sign up for our weekly project. You can also use the supplies for class projects. See the library calendar to find out what this week's project is!
Class Projects
Ms. Hazen works with other teachers at PJHS on Project Based Learning. Students have created stop motion animations, build Rube Goldberg Machines, explored Mystery Tubes, investigated electrical circuits, battled Lego robots and so much more! A makerspace day in your class is a great day!
Crafternoons/Monday Meetups
Crafternoons are special after school events where students get together to complete a craft project together. (These started during distance learning as an opportunity for students to get grab and go craft kits and meet on zoom to complete the project.) See Monday Meetups for more information about crafternoons and mini classes.
Our Makerspace includes a 3D printer! You can make original designs using Tinkercad or other design platforms and submit .stl files for printing using the form below!
"Tinkercad is a free, easy-to-use web app that equips the next generation of designers and engineers with the foundational skills for innovation: 3D design, electronics, and coding!"
