Petchey News

Dear Parents and Carers,

As per the email we sent out yesterday, the last day of term for all students will be Thursday 17th December. This follows advice from the Department for Education. Students will finish at their usual time on Thursday 17th December. They will also have their Christmas lunch on 17th and we will be holding a Christmas Jumper Day for charity so students and staff may wear a Christmas jumpers in return for a £1 donation.

In the new year, we will be reverting to the normal timetable with ALL year groups arriving for 8.20am and finishing at 3.10pm.

Our Parent/Carers Survey closes today so, if you haven't already, please take a few moments to complete our on student wellbeing - feedback from as many parents and carers as possible is essential in helping us continue to ensure that we are supporting students in the right way, and giving you as parents and carers the advice and information you need.

Our Thursday zoom drop this week was really insightful about online safety and how you can help your child to stay safe whilst online - highly topical at the moment given the lockdown. You can see a recording of the session and find out if your child is a digital addict on our Student Wellbeing Hub here.

Despite the current uncertainty, our Sixth Form students have been the embodiment of Petchey Perseverance and UCAS applications are going very well. Many students have received offers for universities already and 6 students have interviews for Oxbridge. Year 13 students are hoping to pursue degrees in Medicine, Law, Psychology, Computer Science, Physiotherapy, Economics, Midwifery, Aerospace Engineering, Accounting and Finance, Nursing and Engineering, to name just a few! We would very much like to see as many of our current year 11 students as possible joining our sixth form next year, and all year 11 students will have "Next Steps" interviews in the early spring to help them to decide on the best pathway for them in September 2021.

Warm wishes

Y7 Beatboxers

Miss Cummings spotted these talented students practicing during break time so she challenged them to create and perform 3 beats. Have a listen to what they came up with.

"I am extremely proud of each and every one of them for working collaboratively as a Year 7 family, stepping out their comfort zone and showcasing an immense amount of skill in a small amount of time."

Envision Community Apprentice

Year 12 Envision students at were joined on zoom by some of their professional business mentors – staff from the international law firm McDermott Will & Emery. Usually we would go on a 2 hour trip to their office at Bishopgate, but this year we brought the mentors to the school (through a screen!).

23 students are taking part in the Envision Community Apprentice programme again this year as part of their enrichment sessions. Loosely based on the TV series, The Apprentice, Community-Apprentice is an inter-school competition which requires young people to develop, and crucially demonstrate, the competencies most valued by employers and most of all, make their applications stand out from the crowd.

Year 12 Health & Social Care students also took part in a Google Meet with 2 children’s nursing student ambassadors from London South Bank University to find out more about careers in nursing and health care.
