Music Composition using GLOSS
Description: Workshop series targeting students interested in music composition. Students will create a sound composition and/or soundscape integrating sounds from GLOSS.
· Workshop #1: Introduction (downloading music files, examples and potential formats)
· Workshop #2: Composition (elements of composition, recording, integrating additional sound files)
· All workshops will take place via Zoom.
· Optional office hours for support
· The final meeting will be a presentation of student compositions
· Final compositions can be submitted for inclusion to website project page
Dates:
Two 30-minute workshops (after school): Tuesday May 31, 2022, 2:45pm
Thursday June 9, 2022, 2:45pm
60-minute Review/presentation prep Wednesday June 15, 2022, 2:45pm
60-minute Presentation/performance Friday June 17, 2022, 2:45pm
Materials needed:
GarageBand (as found on school-issued iPad) or similar software and access to internet

Downloading to iPad
• Go to Explore Gloss: https://sites.google.com/percygrainger.org/gloss/explore-gloss
• choose folder
• open drive folder in a new window
• download all (will create a Zip file)
• unzip (convert to folder of sounds)
• label folder
Using
• import to DAW (eg Garage Band, Logic, Cakewalk, Ableton, Audacity, many others)
• arrange to suit
Possible uses
• extended musical composition
• video sound track
• ringtones and alarms
