Preschool For All prescribes to the principle of play-based learning. Simply put, research shows that young children learn best through play. A large part of the preschool day is spent in free-choice centers: dramatic play, blocks, art, library, and science and discovery.
Students also participate in whole group and small group learning experiences, gross motor, breakfast, lunch, snack, and rest time. A sample schedule is provided to demonstrate how a typical day goes in one of our full-day classrooms.
Each classroom is staffed with two adults: a lead teacher holding an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) teaching license, as well as a paraprofessional teacher holding an ISBE para license. Each classroom has no more than 20 students.
Preschool For All uses the Illinois Early Learning and Development State standards to lead instruction. These state standards are used in lesson planning as well as to determine the depth of individual student learning.
Staff utilize Creative Curriculum, a state recommended curriculum, to plan units of study that are guided by student interest. The Creative Curriculum for Preschool, Guided Edition is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features hands-on, project-based investigations as a pathway to learning. It includes the most up-to-date early childhood development research and offers the embedded support and guidance to effectively bring a content-rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum to life.
We also recognize that preschool is the perfect opportunity to support social-emotional learning. Because of this, we utilize the Pyramid Model Framework to help students get all that they need from their school experience. Our program also pulls in practices and materials from Conscious Discipline to further engage students in their social-emotional growth.
