On Wednesday November 3rd, the boys soccer team ended the season with a fun four-team tournament. The event was organized by Coach Jacob Marino.
To kick off the event the Celtics played Barcelona while Manchester City played Dortmund. In a match ending 9-5, the Celtics beat out Barcelona. Manchester City lost to Dortmund in an exciting match, and they finished 11-3. In the match for third place, Barcelona was able to take down Manchester City, placing Manchester City in last place.
The championship match was an exciting one with goals being scored by Tyler Topper, Adam Raugh, and George Haggert . In the end, it was tied up 4-4. The game went right to penalty kicks. In the final round, the score was 2-1. Penalty kick scorers were Tyler Topper (Dortmund), Adam Raugh (Celtic), and George Haggerty. Noah McCall (Dortmund) stepped up to the ball, kicked it on Celtics’ goalie Tommy Lebo, and hit the crossbar and missed, giving the win to the Celtics, putting Dortmund in second place. The top-scorer of the tourney was Leonidas Giordano.
Congratulations to the Celtics on the exciting win! On the winningteam was Rayn Andreychek, Adam Raugh, Thomas “Tommy” Lebo, Kingston DeWar, Oliver “Ollie” Kratz, Chase Egan, George Haggerty, and Noah Gadberry.
The varsity boys soccer team had an excellent performance while facing McCaskey, making the final score 5-2, comets. Varsity captain Thomas “Tommy” Lebo also had an exciting game, scoring a hat trick! Declan Haines also scored. Adam Raugh finished with two assists. Cameron Calhoun scored the second goal of the game.
The Jv team had even more of an exciting game. During the game, there were numerous opportunities to score goals, but none were finished by the Comets. Finally, with about 5 minutes left, the ball deflects off Brian Toth and is sent spiraling toward the top of the goalie box. JV captain Rayn Andreychek runs at the ball, kicks it, and scores. JV wins the game 1-0.
Despite an excellent performance, the varsity team, unfortunately, lost to Hempfield, 3-0. Varsity goalkeeper and captain Declan Haines had a great game and played well, racking up more than half a dozen great saves.
The JV team played well, and managed to hold the Hempfield team off to a tie, 1-1! The Comet who scored the first goal of the season was Alex Holler. Unfortunately, the Hempfield team was able to score during the second half. JV captain Rayn Andreychek says, "I'm really happy with the performance; the whole team played great!"
The varsity Comets started off slow conceding twice before Leonidas Giordano scored to make the game 2-1. The Comets entered the half down 3-1. After a rally at half time, the Comets came streaking back with a goal from Declan Haines (bottom), and a Cedar Crest own-goal forced by Leonidas Giordano. In the after-game huddle, Coach Jocab Marino says, “That was the best half of soccer I've seen these boys play.”
The JV game started with an Early goal scored by Cedar Crest. The Comets then repelled off attack after attack while making several great scoring opportunities. The Comets entered the half down by one goal. The JV team controlled the second half with more possession than The Falcons. With three minutes remaining, Zach Stoner got the ball at half, and weaved his way through the Cedar Crest defenders. With a great shot, Zach Stoner tied the game as the game finished 1-1.
