The Marticville Middle school cheerleaders work hard each week to pump fans and players up. Not only do they cheer for football, but in the fall they also cheer for girls and boys soccer, and in the winter, they cheer for wrestling and girls and boys basketball. They don’t cheer for the away games, but they come to every home game.
A normal cheerleader’s practice routine looks like this: first they stretch and warm-up, and then they do jumps. Next, they practice cheers and dances, and after that they work on stunts, and lastly they do conditioning, which is an ending routine for practice. They practice general cheers, offense cheers, defense cheers, dances, and more.
For stunts, they sometimes do crazy poses, heel stretches, high kicks, toe touches, and many times they hold each other up or throw each other into the air. Cheerleaders use the cheers and stunts they work on in practice for games.
Because only a few Marticville students are cheerleaders, it forces them to use teamwork with the Manor and High School cheerleaders. According to a Marticville member, so far they’ve been making good bonds and finding ways to rely on each other for tricky stunts. It’s a very welcoming atmosphere, and high school cheerleaders make new-comers feel at home.
Marticville’s cheerleaders say that they overall enjoy cheerleading, and they will definitely continue in high school. Many of them chose to be cheerleaders in the first place because it gives them a new experience, and it offers exercising in a different way. Kids get to meet new people like themselves and possibly find similarities with old friends.
Everything about cheerleading is a chance for a new opportunity, and students who are part of this get to cheer on the Penn Manor teams they love at the same time.
