Housing 

Volunteers who sign up in time and receive confirmation are invited to stay on campus while volunteering.  Penland housing is modest and largely consists of shared rooms.  We do have all-gender housing available.  You will have an opportunity to provide a roommate request and housing preferences in your volunteer application.  We do our best to consider preferences; however, some requests are not possible, and specific rooms or buildings cannot be guaranteed.

Housing assignments will be available at Volunteer Headquarters (VHQ) by 4 pm on Wednesday. 

Please do not switch rooms. Volunteers will be arriving and departing on different days, and in case of an emergency, it’s important that we know where everyone is staying.

If you experience any housing issues during the auction, visit VHQ. The staff there can contact Patrick, the volunteer coordinator, to assist you.

Penland provides sheets, towels, and a pillow. There are a limited number of warm blankets available, so we recommend bringing one with you. Nights at Penland can be chilly—hopefully so!

If you’re flying or happen to forget a blanket, stop by VHQ—we’ll make sure you’re comfortable.

Meals

Penland provides your meals at the Pines dining hall while you are here to volunteer. If you arrive on campus during mealtime, go straight to the Pines to eat, and then check in at VHQ after. Tell them you are a volunteer.
