There once was a red dragon named Smaug
He so loved drinking green grog
He spit and he flew
Til' the arrow did slew
And he fell into the lake like a frog!
St. Patrick’s Day, observed on March 17th, celebrates the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick (416), the patron saint of Ireland and its national apostle! Did you know that Saint Patrick was not Irish?! He was born in Britain and, at the age of 16, was kidnapped by Irish raiders from his home and forced into slavery; later, he started his journey to converting the Irish to Christianity. Over the centuries, the holiday has evolved into a global celebration of Irish culture with parades, food, music, dancing, and a wearing green!
Although we celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day on March 17th, in the United States the entire month of March is Irish-American Heritage Month (started in 1991)! Did You Know that 31 million (or 9.2%) of American residents claimed Irish ancestry in 2025?! Boston has the second largest Irish-American population in the United States with 23% of the residents being Irish-American!
The following titles take place in Ireland, or highlight Irish Protagonists!
The following titles....have green covers!!! Although we celebrate ST. Patrick's day today by wearing green, the original color associated with the celebration was blue!
