Why do we love winter so much? Because of hygge (pronounced hyoo·guh)! Hygge is a Danish word that envelops the feeling of coziness and contentment evoked by simple comforts, such as being wrapped in a blanket, having conversations with friends or family, enjoying delicious food, or reading by the fire with a mug of hot cocoa (yes please)! Winter is also when National Library Lovers Month and Black History Month occur (our favorite month, February!), and other holidays such as World Book Day (March 2nd) and National Freedom of Information Day (March 16th) are celebrated!

So make room for a little hygge in your life this winter while celebrating your privilege to have access to a space that supports freedom of information and unlimited access to books! Check out a new book from the PRHS Learning Commons, read a magazine through your Flipster app (there are over 100 to choose from!), or sit back and relax while listening to an audiobook or reading an eBook through your Sora app (preferably with some yummy snacks and a big comfy blanket)! Winter will be over before we know it; enjoy it while you can!

“Snow was falling,

So much like stars

filling the dark trees

that one could easily imagine

its reason for being was nothing more

than prettiness.”

-Mary Oliver
