This month's Student Spotlight shines upon 9th grader Ashley Tripodi. On February 8th, Tripodi beat the PHS girls indoor Freshman hurdle record that hasn't been broken for 13 years at the Patriot League Championship with a time of 9.77 seconds.
Tripodi has already been thriving throughout her first winter track season with her also competing in the 55m dash and high jump. The hard work and dedication Tripodi puts into this sport led her to compete at the Division 4 State Championship which was held on February 15th for hurdles. Tripodi placed 25 overall and 3rd umong freshman.
Q. How did you feel once you got told you beat the PHS girls indoor Freshman hurdle record?
A. “I was shocked and very excited.”
Q. Do you think someone will beat your PHS indoor Freshman record? When?
A. “I think so eventually, but no one has gotten close to the record in 13 years. So I think it will be a while until someone beats it.”
Q. Are you going to try and beat every PHS grade’s girls hurdle record each year?
A. “Yes, I don't know if it will happen, but I already tied with the sophomore record so I definitely believe I can beat it next year. But both the junior and senior records are going to be difficult to reach.”
Q. How did you feel once you saw the time you got on the board, after the race?
A. “I was actually shocked because I knew that I was going to PR but I didn't think it would be that much, and I was very excited because I knew that the time would qualify me for states.”
Q. Are you happy that you started doing hurdles? When did you start?
A. “I started doing hurdles in spring track in 7th grade, and I’m glad I started doing hurdles because it ended up being my favorite event.”
