One of the most popular electives at Pembroke High School is Mr. King’s Street Law class. We have many electives for our students to choose from. Street Law seems to be a favorite, throughout all of our grades.
Almost all of our students would choose to participate in Mr. King's class. I talked to a student who took Street Law last year.
Molly Morris, a sophomore at PHS said, “Mr. King as a teacher is funny, amazing, and kind. He finds ways to make his class interesting, fun, and interactive. I was also very impressed when he was able to make the class inclusive to everyone participating.”
The Titan Times interviewed Mr. King:
Q:What made you want to start teaching this subject?
A: First of all I was interested in the subject area like law and also I was asked to teach it and so when I was asked to teach it, I said yes. Then after teaching it for one year, I really kind of just fell in love with the content and teaching the course.
Q:Do you enjoy teaching History or Street Law?
A: I enjoy teaching them both but the thing about Street Law is I get to be more current with times because of things happening in the law field. I think students are more intrigued by this.
Q:Which class do you think the students enjoy more?
A: I would say Street Law
Q:How long have you been teaching Street Law?
A: I think I was asked to start teaching Street Law around 2010, so about 14 years.
Q: On average, How many students take your class?
A: On average I think about 100 students a year. I teach two classes of Street Law each semester. One class has around 25 students. So one semester is 50 kids.

As the leaves begin to change colors and Halloween steadily approaches, Pembroke is embracing the holiday wholeheartedly. There are plenty of activities that are taking place both locally and regionally, and PHS students are planning on taking advantage of the festivities and traditions.
For junior Sadie Rizzitano, the fall holiday is a time to slow down and enjoy the company of her family and friends. “Watching Christmas movies with my family and friends on Halloween is my absolute favorite thing to do,” she giggled. Rizzitano also thoroughly enjoys looking at the fall foliage when she drives through town.
Katelyn Driscoll, a senior, on the other hand, enjoys all of the thrills and horror aspects that the season has to offer. “I’m going to Barett’s Haunted Mansion because I really love all of the gore and the horror that goes on over there,” she declared. In fact, Katelyn has been so inspired by her visits to the haunted house that she even hopes to one day work there. “I just really really want to scare people,” she joked.
Freshman Tessa Vitale and her friends are embracing the more playful aspect of the holiday and are going trick or treating. “We’re going to dress up as Mario characters and hang out!” she exclaimed.
The fun isn’t just limited to Pembroke’s borders however, for those who are willing to go a little bit farther even more fall activities are taking place. For instance, the Edaville Family Theme Park in Carver, Massachusetts, is hosting its “Cranberry Festival” through October 12-13. This event includes flea and craft markets, steam train rides, live music, and amusement rides, and is a quintessential fall experience for many.
Another popular regional attraction is the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular located in the Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, from September 27th-November 2nd. This acclaimed event showcases thousands of intricately carved pumpkins and features trivia questions as you walk through the patches. The park also features a “Carving with the Masters Class” on October 27th, where participants are given the opportunity to carve pumpkins with a master and learn unique techniques. Afterwards participants will also be given a guided and descriptive tour of the pumpkin patches where they can see professionally designed pumpkins for themselves.
As Halloween approaches, students are getting ready to celebrate through several fun activities. Even beyond local celebrations there are a plethora of nearby events that are sure to invoke the essence of the holiday. Whether it's something that is lighthearted or spooky, there is something for everyone to enjoy this fall season.

“Short ‘n’ Sweet” or ‘Sweet ‘n’ Salty’?
Sabrina Carpenter recently released her new album, “Short ‘n’ Sweet”. Although most reviews have been deemed positive, listeners have had differing reactions to her new album and what “vibe” follows it.
All Sabrina Carpenter fans were on the edge of their seats on August 22, 2024, waiting for the clock to finally hit midnight so that they could listen to the new album, “Short ‘n’ Sweet”. According to senior Lily Rioux, who has been a fan since Carpenter’s “Girl Meets World” days, she was incredibly excited for the release of the album, “I counted down the days on my calendar.”
Carpenter explained to Apple Music that this album was meant to be an homage to all of Carpenter’s shortest relationships; what those relationships meant to her, their impact, and how you don’t always know what you have until you lose it. It was, for her, a moment of self-discovery. It was a way for her to work through her heartbreak. This feeling undeniably shined through in all her songs, and when you listen to the album cohesively, you feel every emotion that comes with heartbreak- sadness, anger, denial, and finally relief.
When speaking with seniors Courtney DeRenne and Devon Vitale, both said they were huge fans of the album. Both have been fans for years and were so excited when they heard about her new album. When speaking to Vitale, she had said “This album made me laugh and cry, it had lyrics that were both hilarious and gut-wrenchingly sad.” DeRenne immediately loved the album, “I thought it was super catchy from the first song and loved the upbeat vibe to it.”
This was her first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Carpenter gained most of her fame from her time on the Disney show, “Girl Meets World”. However, after the show ended, she only appeared in a few smaller projects, staying ‘behind the scenes’. She quickly became a popular music figure with the release of her debut single, “Can’t blame a Girl for trying” in 2014. However, many fans did not consider this her official debut as a music artist due to it being owned by Disney. This was true for her first 3 albums. “emails I can’t Send” was her first official debut releasing her music. She has since gone on to release 2 more albums, “Short ‘n’ Sweet” being her sixth. Considering the success of this album, many fans are overjoyed waiting, and hoping for the next.

Patriots Preview
by Mike Sears
Jerod Mayo has had an undeniable impact on the Patriots this season. Although he was initially praised in week one, he is starting to receive criticism after losing to the New York Jets in week 3.
After a hot start, the New England Patriots are beginning to decline with their 1-2 start to the season. At the time of this article, they most recently got blown out by New York 21-3 on Thursday night week 3.
New England’s offense has been consistently bad to start the season. They put up 16, 20, and 3 points in weeks 1, 2, and 3 respectively. So far, Patriots starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett has picked up 368 yards, 1 touch down, and has completed 60.9% of passes. However, 2023 3rd overall pick Drake Maye made his NFL debut Thursday after the game got out of hand, as he threw for 22 yards and completed 50% of passes. Coach Jerod Mayo chose Brissett to be the starter after the preseason concluded. However, after Brissett has had consistent injury scares to begin the season, Maye could potentially see more playing time in the coming weeks. Although the touchdowns have been minimal, the field goal unit has been consistent. Patriots kicker Joey Slye has put up 21 points to start the season.
Meanwhile, the Patriots defense has been locking down opponents. After linebacker Matthew Judon was traded to the Atlanta Falcons weeks before the start of the season, questions began to arise about whether the defense would show up. So far, the defense has performed well. Although they made a few mistakes, they are looking good to start the season. Analysts have their defense ranked at 7, a big difference from their offense. Second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez has had a slow start to the season so far. Halfway through his impressive rookie campaign, Gonzalez suffered an injury ending his season. After high expectations, Gonzalez has been slightly disappointing. Time will tell if he can improve his season and help the Patriots maintain a strong defense.
After some ups and downs to begin the season, the Patriots are heading into week 4 1-2. One thing that remains to be seen is whether or not the Patriots will continue to perform well. The Patriots are scheduled to play the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday at 4:05 ET. The question is, how will the Patriots match up with the most recent NFC champions?
Travis Scott’s Long-Awaited Album “Utopia”
by Donovan D'Attanasio
Travis Scott’s highly anticipated album that was released last summer, titled “Utopia.” The album featured many famous artists like Drake, Playboi Carti, Beyonce, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi, Young Thug, SZA, Future, The Weeknd, and more. Scott’s intended message with the release of this album was to place effort into the things you admire, and independently discover the things you don't; live peacefully in your own Utopia.
Junior Anton Gadalla rated the album a nine out of ten and enjoyed almost every song, stating, “I didn’t like it when it first dropped but it grew on me. On the other hand, Senior Sean Tracey thought the album was a six out of ten. Despite a few standout tracks, he could have been more impressed by most of the songs. Both students enjoyed the features on the album but thought Drake and SZA reigned superior. The artists can be streamed on the songs “MELTDOWN” and “TELEKINESIS.”
An everyday favorite among the students we interviewed was “FE!N.” Sophomore Mikey Cantino said it was the best on the album. The song has a futuristic feel, followed by a jumpy beat. The song has a great feature from Playboi Carti who is a favorite of students. Playboi Carti performs with a deep voice, and Scott sings the chorus of the word "FEIN." This song tends to “go crazy” at concerts.

Are your parents tired of paying for your gas? As high school students look to gain experience and earn extra income, local businesses are stepping up with a variety of job opportunities for teenagers. As you drive around town, signs are popping up everywhere saying “Now Hiring,” but how do you choose what’s best among the plethora of job opportunities?
An easy and reliable technique to help you find the perfect job is to create a list of pros and cons for each job that you may be considering. For example, you drive through Pembroke center and you see a sign outside of Dunkin that states “We are hiring!” You drive a couple miles out of Pembroke into Hanover and you see another “We are Hiring” sign at Starland in Hanover. Now you think to yourself, how do I choose between the two? This is where the pros and cons list strategy can help.
First, you create a list of pros and cons about the job at Dunkin. First, the pros. Dunkin pays $15.95, which is 95 cents over the Massachusetts minimum wage. It is located in Pembroke, which is a huge advantage, because you would not have to travel very far for work. Now, the cons. Because Dunkin closes early and most of its busy hours come in the morning, local high school students would be in school, and therefore would not be able to work that many hours. The pros of the job at Starland, is that you can pick your own shifts, running amusements and games are fairly easy, and it is also local meaning that the travel to work would be reasonable. The cons however, are that Starland only pays $15.00 an hour, which is the standard minimum wage in Massachusetts.
After you create a list of pros and cons for both job opportunities, it's time to pick one. If money is the most important thing to you, then your choice is easy, it's Dunkin. However if flexibility is the most important to you, Starland is the better option. In the end, with the influx of local job opportunities, it is important to find a strategy that works for you to help you decide which job is the right fit. The pros and cons strategy is reliable, simple, and efficient for helping you decide where you fit in best.
