The custodial department of PHS is constantly overlooked; completing the "nitty-gritty" work that is, more often than not, under-appreciated- the work that keeps our school running. So who are these unseen heroes? Get to know Mr. Dorgan, one of the vital members of the custodial crew (and JV golf coach) that helps keep Pembroke High School the school that it is meant to be!
Q:How long have you been working here?
Almost 17 years.
Q:What is your position in this department?
I was the head custodian, now I am maintenance/ wastewater.
Q:How did you get the job?
I heard about the job through a gentleman who used to work here, through my dad. They used to work together. I got on the sub list back in the ‘07-’08 school year.
Q:Where did you go to school? Did you graduate college, go to a trade school?
I went to Carver High, and did a year and a half at Massasoit in Brockton.
Q:What is your favorite/ least favorite part of working here?
Favorite part of working here is definitely the people that I work with and the kids. Least favorite…? Graduation can get a little hectic, but for the most part we make it work.
Q:What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?
Don't be afraid to learn! When I came into this job, there was a lot of stuff I had to learn, and it was a little overwhelming. But I always try to “be a sponge” and learn as much as I can.
Q:What can the school do to help make your job easier? Is there any way that we can improve your work environment/experience?
Tell the boys in the history bathroom to stop putting a hole through the wall!
