Boys Soccer
by Matt D'Angelo
Over the past few years the boys soccer program has cemented itself as a perennial powerhouse in the state and this year is no exception. The team is especially young with 7 players featured in the starting lineup being freshman or sophomores. Their youth has been no detriment, with players such as sophomore Nate Comeau who has 6 goals and 3 assists so far.
The boys are red hot winning 12 of their 18 games played this season. Led by junior captains Dylan Baldwin and Tommy McAuliffe they are poised for a deep playoff run. Their win on Monday helped them clinch their 5th consecutive Fisher Division Title.
Junior Striker Dylan Baldwin said “ We are very optimistic about our upcoming playoff run, Winning the Fisher was huge for us, several big wins helped us lock up a pretty high seed.”
The team’s success has been a team effort, Head coach Adam Scott said “ We are very fortunate to have a number of really important players who have and continue to step up for our program. We lost starting Sophomore GK Jack Shea right at the end of the preseason. Senior Collin Kerrigan then stepped up as our GK and did a fantastic job helping us solidify our defensive unit. We also had Junior Ryan Benting, who was a field player for our JV team step up to be our backup GK .” This next man up mentality has proven successful for this year's squad.
Playoff seedings are unveiled Saturday, the boys need a quality crowd as they will play host to a round 1 game. The upperclassmen are no strangers to post season tilts, “Playing in the playoffs is one of the best feelings ,especially when you have a good fan section , it makes for a surreal atmosphere" said Baldwin. Coach Scott is sure the boys have what it takes to make noise in this years tournament . “In order to make a run we will need to be consistent with our compete level and look to outwork our opponents in all areas of the pitch. Goals are hard to come by in tournament games and we will need to take our chances when we have them and do all that we can to protect our penalty area and deny our opponents ability to get into dangerous areas. Finally, set plays and dead ball restarts can be the difference in these high profile games. Throw-ins, corner kicks and free kicks can many times be where games are won and lost. We are hopeful that our gameplan, tactics and overall technical execution is on point when it matters most.”
Make sure to come out and support the squad as they take on the postseason.

Everyone had high expectations for the Patriots after an exciting offseason filled with all sorts of free agent signings. Fans also have high hopes for the new head coach Mike Vrabel who fans are hoping can help lead us to the playoffs.
Week 1: Sep 7: The Patriots faced off against the Las Vegas Raiders in their season opener. The poor defensive and offensive performances showcased in this game may discourage fans but luckily, theirs more football. Although New England fought hard, they ended up taking their first loss of the season to the Raiders with a score of 20-13 and beginning the season with an 0-1 start.
Week 2: Sep 14: It’s week 2 and the Patriots are in a favorable division matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Both teams fought hard and played much stronger offense than defense. One memorable moment from the game was when the Dolphins returned a punt for a touchdown, then shortly after, the Patriots answered with a punt return touchdown of their own. The Patriots ended up pulling through in the end with a 33-27 victory over Miami and having a record of 1-1.
Week 3: Sep 21: The Patriots find themselves in a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fans saw this game as a true testament of our team against a truly challenging opponent. The Steelers are a tough team with a solid offense and a good defense. One memorable moment from this game was when the Patriots were lined up on the goal line, and they ran the ball to Rhamondre Stevenson. This play resulted in Stevenson forcing his way into the end zone, but losing the ball in the process and causing a turnover that gave the Steelers a 2 possession advantage over the Patriots. In the end, the Patriots end up taking a 21-14 loss in the game effected mostly by a poor offensive performance, even though the defense played great. This brought their record to 1-2.
Week 4: Sep 28: The Pats are looking for another win in a game against the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers were expected to put up a good fight but ended up being a cakewalk for New England. One memorable moment in the game was in the first quarter when the Patriots were able to return a punt for a touchdown. The Patriots defense was putting a dead stop on Carolina only allowing 13 points and leaving the Panthers with 2 scoreless quarters. The great performance all around from the Patriots led them to a 42-13 win and giving them a record of 2-2.
Week 5: Oct 5: New England faces off against their hardest matchup of the season with the undefeated Buffalo Bills. The Bills frequently dominate in division games and they have one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league in Josh Allen. One memorable moment from this game was a clutch reception from Stefon Diggs in the fourth quarter that set up the Pats for an easy touchdown that gave them a 10 point lead. The persistent effort from the Patriots and their best game all season gives them a 23-20 victory over the Bills and now have a record of 3-2.
Week 6: Oct 12: The Patriots kick off a game against the New Orleans Saints. The game was a true test of our mentality coming off of the big win against Buffalo. This game was also one of the worst officiated football games of all time. Multiple calls completely changed the game such as the 2 offensive pass interference calls that both resulted in touchdowns being called back. There were also missed calls that would have changed the score of the game. In the end, even with the awful calls, the Patriots were able to walk away with another 25-19 win and improve their record to 4-2.
Week 7: Oct 19: It’s New England against one of the worst teams in football, the Tennessee Titans. In this game, Drake Maye broke the Patriots franchise record for highest completion percentage in a single game at 91.3%. Nothing very exciting happened in this game but the Patriots were able to walk away with a 31-13 victory over Tennessee and improve their record to 5-2
Week 8: Oct 26: The Patriots face off against the Cleveland Browns this week. Despite having a weak offense, the Browns have one of the best defenses in football. They showed off their defensive skill in the first half where they only allowed 3 field goals and no touchdowns. In the second half however, their defense started to collapse. The Browns let up 21 points in the 3rd quarter. The defensive collapse of Cleveland led to a 32-13 win for New England and brought their record to 6-2.
Key Takeaways Weeks 1-8:
Drake Maye is the solution and a top QB in the league
Defense is extremely strong
We are able to beat good and bad teams
Mike Vrabel knows what he’s doing
The Patriots are a playoff lock
New England is a top 10 team in the NFL
