My Philosophy of Teaching Reading
As a reading teacher, my philosophy is rooted in the belief that literacy is the road to all learning. My approach to teaching is guided by several core principals: phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, comprehension and critical thinking. I believe in building a strong foundation in these areas in order to unlock the potential of my readers with explicit and direct instruction. Every child learns differently, so it is important to recognize and respect these differences. In addition, I am mindful of the whole child, considering their emotional, social, and cognitive development. I strive to make positive connections with families and the community in order to better serve my students, and provide resources that can be utilized at home, and wherever they may go. My hope and promise is to provide a nurturing environment and experiences so that my students become confident in their skills and grow their love of reading.
